Zack (Armed and Dangerous #1) by Cheyenne McCray

Ever since bad boy Zack Hunter left her ten years ago, breaking her heart, Sky MacKenna hasn't been able to find a man who sets her on fire the way he did. Then he comes striding back into her life--bigger, badder, and sexier than before....

Zack Hunter never thought his job as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent would lead him back to his small hometown, and he never thought he'd set eyes on Sky again. Leaving her behind had been the stupidest thing he had ever done, but this time he isn't going to let her go. And as soon as Zack lays eyes on Sky, he makes it clear that he intends to make her his all over again.

When Sky becomes entangled in the case he's investigating, Zack can't help but take the threat personally. As the danger mounts, their passion burns even hotter.

I grabbed this one up the other day when I was at the used bookstore. Something about the muted background and the bold title of Zack really caught my eye. I'm glad I picked it up too! Zack was an enjoyable read and even though some aspects of the book didn't quite work for me it was still a great escape with a steamy couple and excellent suspense that caught my interest.

Sky and Zack were great characters. When things get tough you'd want these two on your side. They're both very strong individuals that are dedicated to what they do. He's an ICE agent and she runs a cattle ranch. They're hard working and passionate and just a little head strong and stubborn. Their banter was excellent and the heat between them definitely came across the pages. It was just as delicious when they were getting along as it was when they were butting heads and going at it. Things get very hot and heavy early on and, yeah, the sex scenes were scorching! There are a couple moments that'll have you fanning yourself and reaching for some ice water.

I do wish that McCray had made them work a little harder at reconnecting after being apart for ten years. The start of the relationship was a little too instantaneous to really be believable but once I got past that I really enjoyed their romance and how things developed between them.

My favorite part of the book was the secondary storyline of cattle being stolen from Sky's ranch and the surrounding farms. I thought McCray did a fantastic job with this aspect for the story. You never quite know what's going on and it's always a little questionable who really is a good guy and who isn't. Every time you think you know who it is a little wrench gets thrown in and has you giving someone else a once over. I loved not knowing who you could really trust and what they were up to. The surprises and twists that came along with that were excellent. There were quite a few heart stopping moments during the investigation that'll get your gut churning too and gotta say I really liked how it all turned out in the end.

All in all Zack was an entertaining read and a great start to a series. Some of the guys we met in Zack really caught my eye. I'm looking forward to finding out more about them, who they really are and what they're hiding behind those sexy cowboy hats and charming smiles. If you like hot sweaty cowboys, romances that border on erotic and mystery filled suspense Zack is one book you'll definitely want to check out.
