Guest Post w/ Tes Hilaire + giveaway! (open INT)

Woohoo! It's day 3 of Authors for the Holidays and we've got the uber-talented Tes Hilaire here today with an awesome guest post of her favorite scenes from Deliver Me From Temptation!!
It releases tomorrow so huge congrats on that!!!

Tes writes seriously sexy men that are drool-worthy, intriguing and find their hearts with strong, determined women you can't help but love. The series is pretty phenomenal and a grittier paranormal romance if that makes sense. It's one that keeps getting better and better with each book too! I loved book one, Deliver Me from Darkness, but the newest release...total book love. Our review for it went up today so be sure to check that out and the giveaways here and there :)  Enjoy!

Logan Calhoun is the last full-blooded Paladin, the future leader of a race of immortal warrior angels. The heavy responsibility of continuing the Paladin line falls to him, and the last thing he should do is get involved with a human.

Then fate throws Jessica Waters, a homicide detective who doesn't believe in fate or divine intervention, into his path. Her devotion lies in her Glock and a good set of handcuffs. Like Logan, she's a warrior for her people, and she awakens within him something he'd never thought he'd feel. But she's also as human as they come...

These are a few of my favorite Scenes…

Every Author has their favorite scenes in their books. For me it’s not any specific part of the book but rather a scene that can be assigned this basic creed: The most powerful scene is one that reveals a turning point for a character; that one moment when they have a realization of something profound. Below are a few scenes from Deliver Me from Temptation that explore such moments…Enjoy!

This is the scene were Logan’s actions reveal that Jessica is his bond-mate. I really kind of like this one because even though it’s blatantly obvious to the reader, it isn’t until the fear and adrenaline wear off (in the next scene) that Logan gets it ;-)
Logan stepped forward, the archaic language of the banishing spell rolling off his tongue like an endless crash of waves against a breaker. With the last words of the spell on his tongue, Logan paused, kneeling beside the creature that was Lucifer’s chosen weapon of chaos.
The demon screeched, knowing that three more words would send it back to its master, trying to explain the extent of its failure. The thought of what Lucifer might do to this thing was almost enough to make Logan smile. He might’ve too, if not for the enormity of the demon’s offense.
It tried to possess Jessica.
And for that both it and its master were going to pay.
“Tell your master no one touches my woman.” He laid his hand on the creature’s chest. “Now, go rot in hell.”
This is part of a scene where Jessica realizes that her need for Logan trumps everything…even her logical-cop code. Warning, it’s starting to get a little hot so you might want to grab your fan!
“I said kiss me, not toy with me.”

“Why not? Obviously I like toying with you. And this is all about taking what I want, isn’t it?” she asked, her voice nothing but a low purr that surprised even her. She’d had lovers, not many, but for the most part those encounters were experimentation more than anything else, an attempt to see if she could let go enough to enjoy the moment and take what her body craved. Passion. And the results of those experiments had taught her one thing: Her only passion was for justice. But her body throbbed with alarming need. Logic, right and wrong, fled her mind. She wanted him, and made to prove it by rubbing her body up and down his.
He growled. At the same time, his hands came down on her shoulders, his grip almost bruising as he seemed to war with himself over whether to pull her in or push her away. For a moment she thought perhaps he decided on the latter, just the slightest pressure on her collarbone.
Something snapped inside her, something that had her own body tensing, her fingers digging like claws into the denim fabric.

No. She hadn’t gotten her kiss yet. Not that it would be enough. A simple kiss to prove him wrong was no longer an option. Not when her body practically wept at the thought of not tasting him again.
She lunged, her other hand snaking around his neck, practically pulling herself up his body so she could reach her destination. She needn’t have been so scared. His hands left her shoulders, but only so they could lock on her hips, his head dipping as he ground his pelvis against her. So real, and oh God that felt so good.
Their mouths came together like two greedy animals, ready to devour each other. It probably should’ve been scary or somewhat disconcerting to have gone from zero to tongue down each other’s throats in two seconds flat but it wasn’t. It was sublime.
This is a scene where Logan (who is just shy of immortal) realizes he can’t keep fighting the bond between himself and the very human Jessica. His poignant acceptance and his determination to fight for every moment they might have always makes me a bit blurry eyed so you’ll excuse me if I just hang out over here and grab up a tissue…
Something hard and horrible tasting rose in his throat. It took him a moment to understand what it was: Despair. Because even if he could convince her—which was looking doubtful—it didn’t matter whether she believed. Belief, acceptance. What did either of those things really fucking matter? He’d have what? Twenty? Forty? If he was damn lucky maybe sixty years with her?
She was human. Sooner or later she was going to die.
But I have her now. I have her this moment. And damn if I’m not going to fight for another.
As he grasped on to the thought he closed his eyes, drawing to him the memories of their night together. The average female in this country had eighty years or more. That meant that if he could keep her safe, fifty-four of hers could be with him. Piddling really, but calculated out that meant he could have her for 19,710 days which equaled 473,040 hours or, still further, 28,382,400 moments. And that number didn’t seem nearly so bad…
Wow! I hope you enjoyed those little teasers! I would love to hear about some of the favorite scenes or moments that you’ve read. Hmm I think one that sticks out is from a book I re-read recently which is Home For a Spell by Madelyn Alt. Not quite a romance book but just enough to make you fall in love. The scene where Marcus asks Maggie to stay was too sweet! I love books that have characters you can completely identify with and can think "Hey that could actually happen to me!"

The other scene that sticks out for me is From Yasmine Galenorn's Sisters of the Otherworld series. Where Camille has her wedding ceremony with Smoky, Trillian, and Mario .... so romantic and gotta love those sexy hunks of hers!
While I love the books that are identifiable, there is something to be said about books you can lose yourself in and forget every stress in your life jsut for a little while!

  9. I absolutely love this series! I really hope everyone enjoys it as much as me. There was a shower scene in DMFD which has stayed with me ;) and you nailed Logan's with the second one - I would love to have just one 'moment' with him... of course I think Jessica & my Hubby would have something to say about it!

Lately I have been having a lot of moments with Roarke, I absolutely adore that man and he keeps surprising me! I'm at book 17.5 in the In Death series by JD Robb and none of them have disappointed me :)

  11. Hi Tes,
I can't wait for this book to come out! Loved the first one. Loved the characters. I have lots of favorite scenes in my own stories--if I don't love them, why would my readers? Like you, most of my favorite ones are the scenes that have the most emotional impact--the ones that made me laugh or cry. Best of luck with this latest book, tomorrow's release day, right? Then it'll pop onto my kindle.

  12. Tes thanks so much for coming by the blog! I'm so happy that we were able to help celebrate your new release!!

Thought I'd go ahead and share my favorite scenes :) From DMFT...the whole ending. OMG it blew me away and was just amazing. I'd give my favorite quote by my book has gone MIA in the Christmas mayhem here today. LOL.

My favorite from my current read A Taste for Scandal by Erin Knightley (releases tomorrow & she'll be on the blog next week!) Just finished it last night and holy crap...Amazing! Things are finally getting...intimate between them and the heroine's gotten a bit nervous and gone quiet on him, he pulls her close and asks "what's wrong, sweetheart?" and kisses the corner of each of her eyes and just holds her. There's a little after that but don't want to be too spoilery. It was such a simple yet everything moment and had me completely falling for him.

Its much harder to pick favorite moments from past books. I've read soooo many, that its really hard to remember them. One that I don't think I'll forget is Vampire Instinct by Joey W. Hill, it's when Elisa kills Noah right at sunrise. I cried when I read it and I cry every time I think about it.

  41. I haven't read any of this series yet, so I have limited comments...However, you caught me right from the start. First, I'm a Glock girl all the way. Long standing disagreement over that in our house, esp since my Glock has even 'bitten' my hubby before (the slide scared his hand when he wasn't careful one time). Next, you have written Angels as they should be-true warriors, not pansy boys.
But you sealed the deal with that last scene--counting the moments?? I almost needed a tissue, and I haven't even read the book yet. Wow, well done!

    1. LOL Vicky you made me snort a little. No, Tes's men are definitely not pansy boys. They're kick ass amazing :) And oh you will need tissues by the end of this one!

  44. Deliver Me From Temptation sounds like a fantastic read. I loved Tes' first scene -- I think the whole "Apha, protective, 'mine' mode" is hot!

I guess one of my fave scenes is from Cast in Chaos (Chronicles of Elantra) by Michelle Sagara, where Kaylin is in mortal danger (as usual), Severn is at her side (also as usual), and in order to keep her safe and tethered in their world, he tells her the reasons he loves her (which they had NEVER spoken of before). *sighs*

Happy New Year & thanks for the amazing giveaway!

My favourite part is this sentence: But I have her now. I have her this moment. And damn if I’m not going to fight for another.

  48. You are a new author for me. That's one of the reasons I love following blogs & reading their reviews/author interviews, etc. I love the cover & will be adding this book to my TBRs. My favorite moment from above is...where Jessica realizes that her need for Logan trumps everything.

  50. I haven't read this book it's on my TBR. Tess's favorite scene that stuck with me is "Tell your master no one touches my woman.” He laid his hand on the creature’s chest. “Now, go rot in hell.”

I am looking forward to starting this series.
