Photo-a-Day Challenge Wrap Up!

Woot! We've made it to the end of the challenge! How'd yall do?! Hope you had a good time with it. I'm thinking one day down the road I'll do another one some how. We'll see :) My last handful of photos are below!
Challenge runs from June 10th-June 30th with a photo prompt per day (see below image). It's a totally flexible challenge and all about having fun!

The Monthly Herd: June Recap

And June is OVER! Wow what a month. It was a mix of great things--the Support the Troops event raised over $2800 for the USO--and some pretty heartbreaking--I lost one of my herd babes very suddenly. Everyone else is doing great thankfully so I've been spending lots of time with the herd babes loving on them.

June brought a ton of reviews, a new email subscription service--if you haven't switched over please do!--and a couple cheeky posts about yours truly. I also joined in on The Book Vixen's Review-a-thon and got 11 drafted reviews pre-scheduled and ready to go. Pretty exciting. She does them once a month if you want to join in. We had a new Rock the Blog and another Must Reads list :) If yall have requests for either of those let me know. Oh and we held our first Photo-a-Day Challenge! It was a lot of fun and I might put another together at some point :)

July will be fairly quiet I'm thinking with some nice author guest posts and interviews and a couple new features on the blog.

Other than that AUTHORS and Pubs! If you're interested we now offer advertising on herding cats & burning soup on our side bars. For more info check this link :)

  • Review + Quote-tastic (61)-- I can totally throw them out!--Live For Me by Erin McCarthy

Join us every Monday and share a favorite quote that's grabbed ya for one reason or another.

Everyone's welcome to join in. Authors, bloggers, readers. The more the merrier!

Just grab the button and toss up your post :)

Don't have a blog? No worries, just leave your favorites in the comment section.

This week one of my more recent reads. Live for Me from Erin McCarthy. This one was a little different than most I've read from her. It was an interracial romance plus there was a decades age difference between the hero and heroine. Which, gotta say, I loved. It was a nice read but was one that didn't totally blow me away even with a lot of fun moments. Review is down below for those interested. Anywho. These two have been living together--she's his housekeeper--and things are heating up one night but some house guests are throwing a wrench in "the moment". I just loved his reaction. lol

The Bucket List...a la herding cats!

I've been kicking this idea around for a while and decided I'm ready to give it a go!

Basically it's a Bucket List with a herding cats twist. lol

Mini Reviews: First Strike by Pamela Clare & The Witch's Dream by Victoria Danann

    First Strike (I-Team # 5.9)
Laura Nilsson knows what she wants: a successful career as a broadcast journalist—and a little fun between the sheets now and again. What she doesn’t want is marriage or kids. When a ripped and sexy stranger intervenes to stop a couple of drunks from harassing her in a hotel bar in Dubai City, all she can think about is spending the rest of the weekend with him—in her bed. There’s just one little problem. Unmarried sex is illegal in Dubai.

Navy SEAL Javier “Cobra” Corbray is on his way home from a rough deployment in Afghanistan when he finds himself having dinner with “the Baghdad Babe.” What she wants from him—sex with no strings—could land them both in prison. Still, he’s more than happy to oblige her. She’s confident and sexually assertive, and he’s secure enough to lie back and let her make the first strike. But, as she’s about to find out, he’s more than her match.

Yet, neither Laura nor Javier has any idea what lies ahead—or how this weekend of mind-blowing sex will impact their emotions. Will they act on their new-found feelings in time, or will they let something special slip away… perhaps forever?

Warning: This story ends with a cliffhanger.

    Type: Contemporary Romance/Erotica, Intro Novella
    Heat: 3 out of 5
    Rating: 3 out of 5

    Amazon | Goodreads
First Strike is a quick steamy prologue novella that gives the naughtified version of how the main characters of Pamela Clare's Striking Distance meet during a chance encounter in Dubai. And all the steamy bits as they fall into a lusty illicit weekend tryst that could land them both in hot water because of laws against pre-marital relations in that country.

All of You (Between Breaths #1) by Christina Lee

Avery has just met her hot upstairs neighbor. He's irresistible. Tattooed. And a virgin.

Nursing student Avery Michaels wants nothing to do with dating—she's perfectly happy single. Privy to too many of her mother's bad decisions and even worse taste in boyfriends, all Avery can handle is a string of uncomplicated hookups whenever the mood strikes.

When she meets smoking hot tattoo artist Bennett, she wants him—for just one night. But he won't accept a no-strings-attached arrangement. He lives by a straight-laced code of values based on his own troubled upbringing.

Bennett sees something special in Avery and he wants more from her. Way more. As Avery wrestles with her emotions for Bennett, danger and tragedy force them to open up to each other. And Avery must face the terrifying realization that she wants more from him, too.

So she needs to make a choice—let Bennett go or finally let him in.

    Type: New Adult

    Rating: 4 out of 5

Oh yes. Lee definitely has a fan. I'm loving the Between Breaths series. Reading it a little backwards but still...loving it. I finally got back to book one and oh All of You was fun! And a little different seeing as the hero is a virgin. *lifts eyebrow* Yes. I love that little twist.

Devil's Game (Reapers #3) by Joanna Wylde

"Devil's Game was exciting as hell. With just enough grit and darkness to balance out the sweet, sexy and light moments for a damn fine read." ~herding cats & burning soup
Liam "Hunter" Blake hates the Reapers MC. Born and raised a Devil's Jack, he knows his duty. He'll defend his club from their oldest enemies-the Reapers-using whatever weapons he can find. But why use force when the Reapers' president has a daughter who's alone and vulnerable? Hunter has wanted her from the minute he saw her, and now he has an excuse to take her.

Em has lived her entire life in the shadow of the Reapers. Her overprotective father, Picnic, is the club's president. The last time she had a boyfriend, Picnic shot him. Now the men in her life are far more interested in keeping her daddy happy than showing her a good time. Then she meets a handsome stranger-a man who isn't afraid to treat her like a real woman. One who isn't afraid of her father. His name is Liam, and he's The One.

    Or so she thinks.

    Type: Contemporary Romance--MC
    Heat: 3 out of 5
    Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Amazon | All Romance | Book Depository | BAM | Goodreads

Now that...was a fucking awesome read. Damn me! Devil's Game had me completely enthralled and totally smitten from page one. Sexy as sin hero, kick ass heroine, exciting storyline, some flipping scorchin' lovin' and excellent tension all around made for a pretty thrilling read as the princess of the Reaper's finds herself smack in the sights of a Devil's Jack and rather smitten with the enemy...even if she does what to knee him in the nads now and again.

Always the good girl, Kassidy blossoms under the attentions of two loving men, but neither she nor Chris are expecting the ménage to take a quarter turn toward Dag…and his feelings for Chris. I was feeling like a little menage this morning and decided to finally pull Rule of Three up. It's not the deepest of reads or the most fleshed out but it's enjoyable, sexy and hit the spot when I just needed something quick, easy and, well, of the multiple cock variety. lol

    Write On Review-a-Thon 6/27- 6/28

The Write On review-a-thon is a monthly event created and hosted by Brianna at The Book Vixen. It’s 2 days dedicated to getting reviews done, whether you have one review to write or 30+. This edition of the review-a-thon takes place all day Friday, June 27th and Saturday, June 28th. Let’s get those reviews done!

Oh I am totally joining in on this one! I've been working hard this past 7 months to clean up my drafted reviews. It got SO bad. I'd rough draft then forget em. Got up to 110 drafted reviews. *flails*

Then last Nov I did a bloggy version of NaNoWriMo with a goal of 60 scheduled posts by the end of the month. And it got me motivated. I've gotten my drafts down to just...25! And some of those are new ones that aren't up for review posting quite yet. Not. Bad!

Any who. Hoping this will get me over my blogger girl block and get some of these marked off my list. So as of today these are the reviews still waiting. Most have some type of review written up. They just aren't postable at all yet. Hopefully that's okay :)

So for this Write On Review-a-thon I'm going to work on these books...

Fair Play (It Happened at the Fair #2) by Deeanne Gist

Saddled with a man’s name, the captivating Billy Jack Tate makes no apologies for pursuing a man’s profession. As a lady doctor at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, she is one step closer to having her very own medical practice--until she doctors an imposing man who threatens the fulfillment of her dream.

Hunter is one of the elite. A Texas Ranger and World’s Fair guard specifically chosen for his height, physique, character, and skill. Hailed as the toughest man west of any place east, he has no patience for big cities and women who aspire to walk in a man's shoes.

But the abandoned baby Hunter discovers at the Fair finds him teaming up with the good doctor to give the foundling a better future than the slums of Chicago, where the children play on flea-infested, garbage-strewn streets. AS Billy and Hunter fight for the foundling's welfare, their hearts warm to the precious child--and to each other. Soon their concern grows to encompass the Nineteenth Ward's burgeoning population of street children. In the interest of fair play, Billy and Hunter let nothing stand in their way as they labor to build a park for them, birthing Chicago's first playground and a national movement that will sweep the nation.

But the Fair is coming to an end, posing impossible decisions for Billy and the man who has won her heart. Will they become a footnote in the Fair's history books, or will what they discovered in Chicago be longer lasting than the World's Exhibition.

    Type: Historical Fiction
    Heat: 1.5 out of 5
    Rating: 4-4.5 out of 5

Amazon | All Romance | Book Depository | BAM | Goodreads

I am...so glad I gave Fair Play a chance. Historical fiction isn't one of my normal genres but let me tell you. Gist about did me in with an incredible story of hope, heartbreak and love set during the final days of the 1893 Chicago World Fair as a lady doctor and a Texas Ranger are drawn together by an abandoned infant that sets their lives on a new course they never would have expected.

Guest Post w/ Jess Michaels--challenges, big wet thank ya smooches and...courtesans?!

Hey guys! We've got Jess Michaels on the blog today for a little visit. She's chatting her new release Beautiful Distraction. Check it out and leave her some comment love! ~Anna
It has been a particularly trying day for Olivia Cranfield. Despite her impeccable manners, stylish clothing and posh accent, another protector has detected her lowborn status and rejected her out of hand.

When fellow courtesan Violet invites her to come to Bath to help with the wicked seduction of the scarred, reclusive Earl of Windbury, Olivia jumps at the offer, eager for some excitement and a change of scenery.

The moment Malcolm Graham lays eyes on the delectable woman lurking in the bathhouse alley, he knows she’s a decoy to keep him busy while her friend seduces the earl inside. For a moment, he allows her to play her game…but one touch, and all he can think about is ending the two years of self-denial he’s endured in the name of friendship.

Instant attraction quickly turns into a decidedly erotic affair that makes Olivia question all she’s ever known about passion. But when the truth behind Violet’s assignment comes to light, betrayal threatens to bring everything they’ve built crashing down around Olivia’s broken heart.

Warning: This book contains a lady lying for a good cause, a gentleman as loyal to his friends as he is passionate in the bedchamber, and a steamy affair that will change them both forever.

Hi everyone and a big thanks to Anna for having me here today. It’s basically a HUGE day for me because today my latest book is out! It’s Beautiful Distraction and is the final book in my bestselling Pleasure Wars series (Taken By the Duke, Pleasuring the Lady, Beauty and the Earl).  It’s erotic historical romance and… well, I’m pretty much stoked about it for a few reasons:

I finally read my first Madeline Hunter! It was a pretty good read with a rather interesting wager where the heroine put her virginity up against the hero's 10,000 pounds in a game of cards she desperately needed to win. Ahh the scandal!

Burn For Me (Secrets & Shadows 0.5) by Shiloh Walker

But while Ali’s heart pines to be with Tate, her head has reservations... Ali knows that Tate has never forgiven his father for the fight he had with Nichole right before she left the house—and was never heard from again. Ali thinks that Tate's unresolved anger is a force to be reckoned with...even though the heat that blazes between them is undeniable. Now both Tate and Ali are left to wonder: Can love really conquer all?

    Type: Contemporary Romance, Novella
    Heat: 3 out of 5
    Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Sexy, sweet and full of steam. Just what I expect from Shiloh Walker! Burn for Me was a little heartbreaking but at the same time a completely heartwarming glimpse inside the life of Tate as he hits a crossroads in his life. One where he has to decide if holding on to his childhood traumas and anger will keep him from the woman he loves and a future he desperately needs with her and her sons. It's a quick read--only about 80 pages--but pretty satisfying.

To Command and Collar (Shadowlands #6) by Cherise Sinclair

I read this one a good bit back but the poor thing's just been languishing in my draft reviews folder. Figured was about time to pull it out and get it all glossed up and pretty for yall ;)
Determined to find the human traffickers preying on Shadowlands’ submissives, Master Raoul gets himself invited to a small slave auction. Once informed, the FBI orders him to reject the limited choices so the slavers will invite him to the big auction. To Raoul’s shock, one of the slaves is the kidnapped friend of a Shadowlands sub. She has a scarred body…and an unbroken spirit. He can’t leave her behind. Ruining the FBI’s carefully laid plans, he buys her.

Kimberly’s freedom has come at a devastating price: the other women are still slaves. An FBI raid is their only hope for rescue. Desperate to help the Feds locate the big auction, she agrees to pose as Master Raoul’s slave. Wearing a collar again is terrifying, but under the powerful dominant’s care, Kim starts to heal and then to blossom. This is what she’s been drawn to—and fled from—her entire life.

She escaped the slavers who captured her body—can she escape the master who’s captured her heart?

    Type: Erotic Romance--BDSM

    “You're very lovely, gatita."

Her brows pulled together, and she gave him a skeptical stare.

"Do not look at your master as if he's an idiot.”
And I've now Google searched...pervertables, fire play--which omg I'm so curious!-- vampire claws and a variety of Spanish swears! Damn but it's fun reading one of Sinclair's books. lol I absolutely love this series and have never been disappointed but going in I knew it would be hard to read parts of To Command and Collar as Raoul helps Kim deal with escaping a sex slave ring and they continue working to save the other women still in it's grasp.

Rock the Blog (2)--Centering Post/Page Title in Blogger

Rock the Blog is a "How To" for bloggers!

From graphics to html and all kinds of bloggery goodness.

Since I'm based in Blogger most posts will revolve around the Blogger platform though some ideas may apply to Wordpress as well.

Welcome to this week's Rock the Blog!
This time we're talking how to center blog post/page/header titles :)

Hunter by Night (Chronicles of Yavn #3) by Elisabeth Staab

Party girl Alexia Blackburn is only hanging around the vampire compound until her best friend—the queen—has her baby. After that, nothing is going to stop Alexia from getting back to daylight, safety, and feeling like a normal human being. But leaving the vampire world has one big catch...

Head of vampire security Lee Goram has hated and distrusted humans for centuries. Feeding on vampire blood has kept him strong...but now it's killing him—and he's horrified to discover that Alexia may hold the key to his cure. He'd rather die defending his king than admit his weakness, but time is running out for the great vampire warrior...

    Type: Paranormal Romance, Vampires
    Heat: 3 out of 5
    Rating: 4 out of 5

Amazon | All Romance | Book Depository | BAM | Goodreads

Oh I have definitely been missing out on some damn fine paranormal goodness by not reading Staab sooner! Hunter by Night was a gloriously snarky, steamy and action packed read as vamp Lee--who so doesn't go for humans--falls for the "enemy"...one tiny frail and sassy *gasp* mortal. Blast those meddling Fates! lol And all while plague wielding nut jobs abound, baby vamps are being born and all kinds of para craziness surrounds them. Lordy it was fun!

But a bet is a bet, so he agrees to play maid for Beth Hamilton—as long as he can use his servitude as research for his next role, and then resume his life in the spotlight.

After her husband’s death and the publicity surrounding it, all Beth needs is a quiet, normal life for herself and her children. She never expected a new Prince Charming to show up at her door, let alone as the new maid. But when the paparazzi follow, Beth is sure of one thing: Bryan has to go.

Then flirtation turns into seduction, and Bryan needs to convince Beth he’s more man than maid—or an actor playing a maid. Because this latest gig as the love of Beth Hamilton’s life just might be the role of a lifetime...

And it's out tomorrow so I went ahead and included my review below. Anywho this scene just made me smile and maybe snort a little. Josiah is one of his teammates.

    1) If you were a super hero what powers would you have?
Hmm either time manipulation or night vision. Both would be oh so handy for extra reading time or reading in bed at night :)
Or non-bookish...Misting? Shadowing? No clue what to call it but being able to go all misty tiny particle-ish and being able to move through the air/shadows/through cracks/etc.

Sometimes the opening line just snags me. And damn. Cherry Adair totally got me with the start to Hide and Seek..."Well, well, if it isn't Miss Eastman. I'd recognize those tits anywhere." LOL I don't know why but that totally made me bust out and I just knew I was gonna have a good time with Delanie and Kyle. And it was a good time. Action packed, a little over the top (not in a bad way) and just an exciting adventure as these two deal with their own secret missions deep in the dangerous jungles of South America and with the fact they spent some hot and sweaty nekkid time with each other years ago. Bwaha. Love it!

Nate has developed quite a playboy reputation around campus. It's not that he doesn't respect or trust women; he doesn't trust himself. The men in Nate’s family are prone to abusive behavior—a dirty secret that Nate’s been running from his entire life—so Nate doesn't do relationships. But he can’t help himself around one girl…

Jessie is strong, independent, and works at a tattoo parlor. Nate can’t resist getting close to her, even if it’s strictly a friendship. But it doesn't take long for Nate to admit that what he wants with Jessie is more than just friendly.

With Jessie, he can be himself and explore what he’s always felt was a terrifying darkness inside him. Even when Nate begins to crave her in a way that both shocks and horrifies him, Jessie still wants to know every part of him. Testing their boundaries together will take a trust that could render them inseparable… or tear them apart.

Sometimes, unfortunately, you have to say good-bye to a series you've loved. And for me that was what Lover Reborn amounted to. Blerg. Really just nothing about it worked for me other than some small appearances by a secondary character and a pup that joined the crew. Other than that there were WAY too many storylines happening instead of focus on the actual hero and heroine. Though I don't know that it would have been any better with them as the focus because really...Tohr was an asshole pretty much the entire time and No'One was pretty bland and forgettable.
