Night Pleasures (Dark Hunter #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Dear Reader,

Have you ever wanted to know what it's like to be immortal? To journey through the night stalking the evil that preys on humans? To have unlimited wealth, unlimited power? That is my existence, and it is dark and dangerous. I play hero to thousands, but am known to none. And I love every minute of it.

Or so I thought until one night when I woke up handcuffed to my worst nightmare: a conservative woman in a button-down shirt. Or in Amanda's case, buttoned all the way up to her chin. She's smart, sexy, witty, and wants nothing to do with the paranormal-in other words, me.

My attraction to Amanda Devereaux goes against everything I stand for. Not to mention the last time I fell in love it cost me not only my human life, but also my very soul. Yet every time I look at her, I find myself wanting to try again. Wanting to believe that love and loyalty do exist.

Even more disturbing, I find myself wondering if there's any way a woman like Amanda can love a man whose battle scars run deep, and whose heart was damaged by a betrayal so savage that he's not sure it will ever beat again.

Ahhhh. How I wish I could be Amanda and wake up handcuffed to my very own Dark Hunter. *girly sigh* If you haven't read this series you so need to. Night Pleasures was indeed a pleasure! lol I love the combination of Greek mythology mixed with a twist on vampires, steamy romance and the sultry locale of present day New Orleans. It's a fun world to get lost in for a few hours and one of my favorite series. It's actually one of the first I read when I was first getting into reading as an adult.

The quick of it is that Amanda--a human-- has been dragged into the world of Kyrian and the Dark Hunters--warriors who long ago were betrayed in their human lives and turned into immortals by Artemis in exchange for protecting humans from those that prey on them. And now one of the bad guys--who is out for blood--has mistaken Amanda for her twin sister Tabitha who is heavily involved int he paranormal world Amanda would rather not know about.
“Oh no, no, no! Are you going to suck my blood?"

"Do I look like a lawyer to you?"
I really liked both Kyrian and Amanda. They're both incredible characters and I loved watching them together as they dealt with the situation and with their attraction to one another. They rock some serious sarcasm and it's hilarious to me. They also have some major hurdles because of their pasts, fears of trusting again and just the unknown that they have to get through. And thank God they do because lordy they're good together and damn it's hot.

My favorite thing about Amanda was her reactions to things. She doesn't want to know about this world. It's overwhelming and she's scared but she pulls herself together and deals with it. A minor little freak out maybe but who can blame a girl for that? And Kyrian is just an amazing guy. Generous and caring--even though he tries to hide that side of himself. His life has been full of betrayals and torture and trusting anyone, let alone falling in love with another human, is incredibly hard for him. He's one that just tears your heart out with how much pain and hurt he bears because of his past. Seeing these two overcome their individual issues and give in to the chemistry and spark between them was just...excellent.

All in all, a fabulous read from start to finish. Kenyon has incredible wit and really weaves a fun tale of romance and danger that'll keep you glued to the pages.
