Woots! And so...Authors for the Holidays begins!!! Today we've got Kelsey Browning joining us. She's an awesome lady and writes the most entertaining contemporary romances. The characters are such a hoot and just dang likable. Anywhos! I'm handing off to Kelsey for a bit. She's meme-jacking Quote-tastic for the day with a funny quote that...didn't quite go where I thought it was going and oh I think I like this heroine and her bit of naughty. Yall check it out and leave Kelsey some comment love!  ~Anna
Strangely enough, writing a quote-tastic post for HC&BS was more intimidating that thinking up an entire guest post! Probably because Anna is just so damned witty in her quote-tastic posts. She’s a hard act to follow.

Today’s quote is from Designed for Love, the 4th book in my Texas Nights series that released about a week ago. Mac and Ashton’s HEA is pretty lighthearted, but I just had so much fun watching them circle one another. Parts of this story just flew off my fingers and the snippet I’m including here is one of them. :)
“Ashton Davenport,” Mac bellowed. “You need to get your fancy ass down here and grab your dog.”

Shoot, he thought she was up the hill somewhere. And it wasn’t as though she had the talent to pitch her voice, crawl away, and come strolling down the path as if she hadn’t been spying on him. Talk about schoolgirl behavior.

“I mean it,” he hollered. “If you don’t control him within sixty seconds, I can’t be held responsible for my actions. And I’ve been shopping for a new dog-skinned rug recently.”

That had her on her feet in a flash. “You wouldn’t dare—”

His green-eyed glare swung toward her, but his hands continued to protect his valuables as he eased into deeper water. “Want to tell me what the hell you’re doing?”

“I…um…ah…” Shit, she had nothing. Not one thing. Note to self: always have a cover story before spying on a man skinny-dipping.

His eyebrows and his lips lifted in sync. “I bet you’re doing a nature walk. Taking in the local flora and fauna.”

The only fauna that held much interest for her right now was a species that stood about six-four, was somewhere in the range of a perfectly muscled two-twenty and had the most bitable ass she’d ever seen. “I…came by to talk with you about Professor Wurzenbach and I…sort of…wandered off the path and twisted my ankle.”

He angled his chin toward her. “You happen to fall with that pad and pencil in your hand?”

“I was…writing a Help Me sign.”
Thanks to Anna for having me here today and letting me share a bit of Mac and Ashton’s story!

That’s how Mac McLaughlin sees her, anyway. And now that he’s enduring a temporary self-imposed exile in tiny Shelbyville, Texas, he’s seeing her way too often. Mac only wants to succeed as the contractor for the Lily Lake development in order to rebuild his reputation and return to Dallas, pronto. A sexy distraction like Ashton was not in the plans.

Ashton kissed her trust fund goodbye and left her life as a society princess to prove she could make it on her own. Developing Lily Lake is her big chance, but it’s hard to stay focused working side-by-side with bossy, rough-around-the-edges Mac. Especially when he pulls off his shirt.

When the discovery of an endangered species derails the project, Mac can’t afford to stick around for a stalled job. His and Ashton’s explosive chemistry aside, he’s outta there…unless she can convince him that they just might be able to build something together.

Kelsey Browning writes sass kickin’ love stories and co-authors Southern cozy mysteries. She’s also a co-founder of Romance University blog, one of Writer’s Digest 101 Best Websites for Writers. Originally from a Texas town smaller than the ones she writes about, Kelsey has also lived in the Middle East and Los Angeles, proving she’s either adventurous or downright nuts. These days, she hangs out in northeast Georgia with Tech Guy, Smarty Boy, Bad Dog and Pharaoh, a (fingers crossed) future therapy dog.
