This week I'm going with a new favorite author of mine. Lilah Pace. She writes a stunning erotic and edgy series that deals with the kink of rape fantasy. A very touchy subject but she handles it in an incredibly way. The second book--Begging for It--came out recently and *noms* so good! These two quotes both gave me a chuckle...
Not half an hour after I've left Doreen's, as I'm in the vitamin aisle at the drugstore, my phone vibrates in my purse. When I see it's him, I pick up right away. "Hey. What's up?"
"You should stay at my place tonight," Jonah says.
My cheeks flush hot. "You want me again so soon?" A woman over by the ginko supplements gives me a look.
Oops. Reminder to self: Lower your voice in public.
Okay so in this book there's a rapist terrorizing the community and Jonah is dealing with the fall out of his kink being discovered and the police eyeing him. I just loved the heroine in this bit.
"And you two simply stayed in all night," Good Cop says. "Dinner and a movie, that kind of thing?"
Bad Cop chimes in before we even have a chance to answer. "Did you have sexual intercourse?"
"How the hell is that any of your business?"
Jonah's gray eyes have turned stormy; this could be about to get ugly.
"It's all right." I lay one hand over Jonah's forearm and smile at Bad Cop. "Yes, we had sex. Right about where you're sitting, actually."
That wipes the smirk off his face. Bad Cop slowly takes his arms off the dining room table as if it has Fornication Cooties, and sits back in his chair.
(Okay, I lied by a few feet. It's worth it to see this jerk look like he just bit into a lemon.)
Begging for It (Asking for It #2)
This was book two for Jonah and Viv. Their first book, Asking For It, was amazing but left off with an open ending. Something that usually doesn't work for me at all but in their case totally did and I was crazy excited to dive into their lives again. I was sucked in completely into the chaos of their life, love and desires. Held riveted by Viv and Jonah as they struggle with their desires, the investigation and family drama that threatened everything they hold dear.
I'm not sure why perp is called a stalker in the blurb but the suspense side of watching these two deal with a rapist on the lose and with accusations was horrifying, frustrating and had me working up a good mad for all involved. How frustrating to have your private kinks used against you. To be judged by society, family and friends for having a 'deviant' desire. The emotional turmoil these two went through. Whew. I did catch on fairly early with who was behind things but it was still interesting watching everything unfold.
The romance was full of ups and downs that had me cheering during their moments of triumph and aching as they battled the world around them. The sex scenes were incredibly hot. While it wasn't as dark and erotic as book one it was passionate, sexy, and intriguing. I really love these two. Now and again they make me want to shake them but they're good people, ones I'd totally be friends with and ones I desperately wanted to see happy.
The secondary characters (other than her horrid family) were fantastic and added a wonderful layer to the story--including his siblings who I would LOVE to hear more about some day. Come on give us more books! lol A lovely ending to a brilliantly complicated love story.. Nicely done! A beautifully twisted romance that touches the heart, heats up the sheets and leaves you begging for more!
**This one leaned towards a 3.5 overall mainly because the first 10% of the book was a strong recap of book one and that didn't do much for me since I'd read it already. But once that passed...holy cow.
Have your read Pace?
What's the most extreme or taboo subject you've read about?
Jonah and Vivienne’s erotic bond—living out raw scenarios of captivity and force—began as no-strings sex between strangers who shared the same desires. Now the intimacy between them is turning into love, but it’s a love built on fantasies so extreme that exploring them makes guilt inescapable. But the risks they're taking are far more dangerous than they'd imagined.
A stalker is terrorizing the city, and one of Jonah’s ex-lovers names him as a potential suspect to the police. Standing by a man under suspicion could cost Vivienne everything. But when Jonah’s stepfather takes advantage of the scandal to seize control of the Marks family fortune, Vivienne is drawn into her lover’s broken family and twisted past. Only then will she learn how dark the truth really is...
