The quick of it is that Janelle and Ace have an, erm, complicated past seeing how months earlier he kidnapped her, held her hostage and kinda shot her ex. Yeah. *big ol' owly eyes* And now he's trying to make up for all the shit he's done, win her over and deal with two battling MCs intent on pulling him into their dangerous rivalries.
This one was crazy interesting to me. It's an MC romance but the hero, Ace?...not in an MC. He left his and became an outcast and is getting clean. I've never seen that done in an MC romance before but I freaking loved it. He wants to be on the straight and narrow for his daughter. It was unique and interesting exploring a different facet. Seeing how hard he wanted out but how deep the ties could twist.
"Let's go somewhere," he said, pressing his lips to her exposed neck.Alright, so, these two. Janelle is a survivor through and through. Been through horrible things in her past, raising her near teenage son on her own--yup they both had kids, trying to get a better life for them no matter what she has to do. Stripping included. She was easy to like and I definitely felt for her and her battles.
She couldn't. Not tonight.
"I want to fuck," he said, as if she might be confused about his intent.
She laughed softly, enjoying his blunt approach.
His eyes blazed with determination. "I'm going to fuck you until you say yes."Ace was blunt, maybe a little crass and had a cold edge to him. He's a former hitman and done a lot of bad shit in his years. But he had a gentlemanly thread in him too that was pretty irresistible. Plus seeing how gaga he was over his daughter...total swoony hero material.
She laughed at his claim, bracing her palms on his chest. He knew that the only place she'd let him boss her around was in the bedroom, so he was playing dirty now--and she liked it.
The heat...hot damn! Intense, passionate, edgy. They had just a smidge of dominant/submissive tendencies that were fan-yourself-good. funny now and again too. This one has a lot of heat to it. Nothing too extreme but high on shiver-worthy action.The action...nice! They're caught between two rival clubs--his former MC and one that's trying to use him against it. Manipulations, attacks, edge of your seat action. Totally made my palms sweat.
All in all, Shooting Dirty was sexy, gritty, make-a-girl-pant goodness. From the romance to the setting and characters Sorenson totally nailed it. I seriously hope there will be more from this series. *begs oh so prettily*
