The Monthly Herd-- Um...March?

Well March was a busy one! But...not a lot happened? lol The blog was the blog. Reviews and randomness. Nothing too remarkable I don't recall.

On the home front I finished my first ASL course and the second began. It was almost canceled because not enough people had signed up but last minute two more joined in and we were a go. I was pretty glad to hear that.

3.5 stars--Cuff Me (New York's Finest #3) by Lauren Layne

One grumbly hero, a perky heroine, 6 long years of being partners, one engagement...to another man *gasp* and a lot of meddlesome Italians. Ahhhh the fun! Cuff Me...yes, please!

The quick of it is that Jill and Vincent are homicide detectives and have been partners for 6 years. But she's been away for a few months taking care of her sick mom. It's given him time to stew and think about how he wants more from her only to find out she's engage to a guy she met while she's away and is about to turn all their lives into a tumble. But something's just not quite right with any of it and tensions they rise. Oh do they rise!

4 stars--Everything I Left Unsaid (Everything I Left Unsaid #1) by Molly O'Keefe

Well, damn! Everything I Left Unsaid was addictive! I can't believe I've had it sitting on my review shelf since before it's release and just now got to it. *hangs head in blogger girl shame* Secrets, lies, danger, make-you-pant heat, damaged characters yearning for more and fighting internal battles...gah, yes, it was delicious!

Okay so the quick of it is that Annie is on the run and lands in a trailer park. Her first night there a phone rings in her trailer and she answers it. Kicking off a wild ride full of passion, hope, and a bit of dirty adventure with a mysterious man who knows just what she needs.

So Jill Shalvis. That means... QUOTES! Lots and lots of quotes! lol I had like 20 marked but worked my way down to just 4 for today. This series is really wonderful. A set of siblings that own a ski lodge and are trying to stay above water. There's a lot of heart tugging stuff in this one but damn there are some good chuckles too...

I am so with her some mornings. lol

3.5 stars--One Texas Cowboy Too Many (Burnt Boot, Texas #3) by Carolyn Brown

Quirky and slightly insane...that pretty much sums up One Texas Cowboy Too Many. Well. The slightly may be debateable. Totally and completely crazy?...yeah, that may be the ticket with this group. lol This is one lively town full of some wild folks dead set on keeping a 100+ year old feud hopping and eventful. You're either a Brennan...a Gallagher... or a damn unlucky sob who is caught in between these feuding families. And whew boy they're gonna make it rough on a person. lol

Alright. The quick of it is that Rhett is new to town. He's come to help his family--who lives between the two feuding ranches--out on their farm. And oh one of the feuding ladies has caught his eye. There's something different about Leah Brennan and he's ready to find out what. Now, Leah? She's tired of being the "good" granddaughter and doing her feuding granny's bidding. She's ready to make her own decisions and one of those? Tackling the bike riding cowboy that's driven into town and is strictly forbidden.

Tasty Delights-- Mac & Cheese w/ Fried Avocado

Noms! A couple years back at Christmas when my mom was visiting we went out and one of the dishes served was Mac & Cheese with Fried Avocado. It was so dang good! So I decided one day when I had a craving to try and make it on my own. Definitely worth a little bit of effort and one I'll do again one day...

Randomly Random: The Google... It has failed me.

Sooo. I search for a lot of images for the blog. A lot of images.

And sometimes...The Google? It fails me. lol

I thought I'd share the, erm, goodness. Yeah. I so do not suffer in silence. I'm bringing you ALL with me *winks*

2 stars--Hawke (Cold Fury Hockey #5) by Sawyer Bennett

Just look at that cover. Lordy! That is one serious #Covergasm.

I was all excited about starting Hawke. I enjoy Bennett's books and, hello, hockey playing hottie. Woo! But my first thought when I finished this one? Damn. Apparently I read a totally different book than everyone else did. Hawke. Well it has an AMAZING cover. And that was my favorite thing about it.

4 stars-- Happily Bedded Bliss (The Rakes of Cavendish Square #2) by Tracy Anne Warren

Happily Bedded Bliss. Something Lady Esme and her reluctant husband Lord Northcote must fight for...fiercely. Theirs isn't an easy romance or one that's particularly sweet or romantic but it was touching, hard won and in the end had me sighing in relief that these two had figured things out. And oh the things they had to figure out...whew!

The quick of it is that Lady Esme can't always help herself. Some things are just too damn tempting and stumbling on a sleeping--and naked--Gabriel one afternoon as she walked along the lake so brings that out in the naughtiest of ways and before she realizes it she's sketching the nude stranger and sealing both of their fates. The only way to avoid a scandalous and tattered reputation after they're made public? According to her many brothers...marriage to said stranger, of course!

Insta-Wednesday: The One Where I Question...Everything.

Because I love Instagram and fun pictures. The Herd's week ala Instagram :)

Soooo. I'm Spring Cleaning. It's gotten to the "What the hell was I thinking?!!" phase of the process. lol I'm not just cleaning. No, no. That would be too easy. I decided to strip each room of everything in it. Scrub the room. Paint the room. Purge and redecorate.

Yeah. I'm mid-living room still and holy cow. So lots of that this week. lol

2 stars--Asking for More (Asking for It #2.5) by Lilah Pace

I had an impressive OMG squealy reader-girl moment when I spotted Asking for More. I love the world Pace created surrounding Vivienne and Jonah and their shared dark desires of rape fantasy. It's been a stunning and fascinating romance. So more Viv and Jonah? Oh hell yeah. Gimme gimme!

Things didn't quite pan out that way though. There was nothing intrinsically bad about it... there just wasn't really anything to it... at all. Definitely not what the blurb is suggests--which would have been quite exciting and emotional from the sounds of it.

Aaaaaand I have no self control. NONE! Three quotes today. Gah I love this series from Murray. Seriously. Hot sexy Marine with a soft side. #dies

So this first one. Greg, Brad and Graham(Sweeney) are kind of team leaders on the Marine boxing team. They're gearing up for a competition against the other branches but they've got some elements working against them. I loved this pep talk of sorts. I totally know what they mean by chills. It's an amazing thing to hear.

Word from the Herd: Why I'm NOT visiting a Blog

Insta-Wednesday: A little this. A little that.

Because I love Instagram and fun pictures. The Herd's week ala Instagram :)

A somewhat quiet week.

4 stars-- Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson #9) by Patricia Briggs

Can I just start out with a *big dreamy sigh* because Adam and Mercy? *swoons*

The quick of it is that there's all kinds of troubles between the Fae and, well, pretty much everyone else --hello there's a troll destroying a bridge and eating people! And suddenly the Pack's smack in the middle of it trying to figure out a way to keep their area and people safe and bring some kind of truce with the Fae about while not totally giving in to their demands of turning someone over to them. Pack dissent, new arrivals, a little romance and danger all swirling about in a thrilling little package. Gah! Seriously!

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

3.5 stars--The SEAL's Rebel Librarian (Alpha Ops #2) by Anne Calhoun

Sexy with a heavy dose of Ohmigod, yes, please! The SEAL's Rebel Librarian was a naughty little treat as Emily--who is a librarian (yay!)--decides it's time to go a little crazy and do all the things she wasn't allowed to try during her stiffing marriage. Sky diving and motorcycle buying topping that list. A sexy temporary fling with a younger man? Hell yeah that's getting added to her list of things to do now too!

Buy The Book: New Releases/Deals/Freebies--March 8

Oo well it looks like we're doing a format change up with the Buy the Books posts after all! Amazon changed things in their behind the scenes formatting and it's way too time consuming now. So for the time being I'll be linking in the covers for each book and you'll need to click through to Amazon for the descriptions. Sorry about that!

Anywho. Lots of fab reads this week. Fire Touched and Jackson's Trust were a lot of fun :D

Sports romance!! Woohoo! I'm going to do today's Quote-tastic/Review a little differently. We're going quote-review. First one I've done so we shall see how it goes <grins>

But first! The quick of it...Okay so Jackson is a sports analyst and Leila...the new sideline sports reporter who's working under him. And oh the attraction and intrigue they have for each other! For the first time they've found someone who thinks like they do. It's numbers and stats and seeing how puzzles fit. One thing that won't fit? An office romance. *le sigh* And so a yummy battle of wills begins...

Tasty Delights--Peanut Butter & Chocolate Stuffed Croissants

Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chip Stuffed Croissants!

Bringing some yum to the blog today! I needed something delicious and easy and these were exactly that. Chocolate peanut buttery goodness in a flaky croissant. Yum!

They're great because you can easily customize them to suit your mood, too, or do a couple different varieties at the same time if you have picky eaters.

Insta-Wednesday: Erms. The one where she forgot what day of the week it was...

Because I love Instagram and fun pictures. The Herd's week ala Instagram :)

So. I maybe forgot Wednesday this week. mebbe.
So. Insta Wedfriday it is!

DNF/ 1 star-- How to Handle a Scandal (The Scandalous Sisters #2) by Emily Greenwood

< There will be spoilers for this one >

Oooo! I love a second chance romance trope. Plus the gorgeous cover? Totally in.

Aaaaaand DNFd at the midway point.

The quick of it is that when they were young Tommy proposed and Lizzie...laughed. She was young and stupid and hurt him badly which sent him off to India for years. He's come home for a visit a hardened man. A hero. And someone who had little interest in the flighty girl who hurt him years earlier even if everyone claims she's changed.

4 stars-- Sinner's Creed (Sinner's Creed MC #1) by Kim Jones

If I could stop crying it would make writing this review so much easier. Sinner's Creed is an interesting read. It's not your typical romance. It's not your typical happily ever after. For some people they're going to love that. For others...they're going to hate that. Going in I knew what was coming with the storyline (I totally twisted the publicist's arm lol) and even going into this one knowing everything I knew it was still a read that dang near gutted me and had me bawling by the end. It's gritty, raw, sweet, sexy, heartbreaking, inspiring... it's a read that will grip your heart tightly and will leave you both devastated and smiling over the love two broken and lonely people were able to create.
