3.5 stars-- Silence Fallen (Mercy Thompson #10) by Patricia Briggs

Woohoo! I finally finished Silence Fallen. And it only took me...3 months. Erms!

I struggled really hard with the first 45% of Silence Fallen and ended up putting it on my temp DNF shelf because it just wasn't working for me earlier this year. It wasn't the book, though. It was me trying to force read it in time for release day when I really wasn't in a mood for PNR/UF. And that always goes poorly.

Things the second time around went SO much better. It was fairly easy to pick up where I left off, actually, and after a few pages I was getting my Mercy groove back and by the end of the book really enjoyed it.

It's a different pace than usual, a different location than usual, some new characters on the scene and some surprises with them. Danger, manipulations, witchcraft. There were so many elements and curiosities as Adam and crew hunt across Europe for Mercy-- who'd been kidnapped.
"It's just that now that I know where she is, I'm not sure I can find the patience to wait. And talk and talk and talk without killing someone."
I loved seeing both Adam and Mercy do their individual thing and their faith in each other's abilities and strengths. There's danger and risk around every corner as they try to get her to safety but I liked seeing how they handled it on their own sides. Adam having to fight to stay in control of his beast and be diplomatic with vampires and witches and other werewolf packs while being away from his Pack. Mercy and her craftiness as she'd escape one danger and fall into another. There were a number of ah ha! moments, too.

All in all, while I had a rough start due to my mood in the end I really enjoyed Silence Fallen. Adam and Mercy are just amazing and it's always fun to spend a little more time with them.

Attacked and abducted in her home territory, Mercy finds herself in the clutches of the most powerful vampire in the world, taken as a weapon to use against alpha werewolf Adam and the ruler of the Tri-Cities vampires. In coyote form, Mercy escapes only to find herself without money, without clothing, and alone in the heart of Europe...

Unable to contact Adam and the rest of the pack, Mercy has allies to find and enemies to fight, and she needs to figure out which is which. Ancient powers stir, and Mercy must be her agile best to avoid causing a war between vampires and werewolves, and between werewolves and werewolves. And in the heart of the ancient city of Prague, old ghosts rise...
