4 stars-- Burn for You (Slow Burn #1) by J.T. Geissinger

Oh man! Geissinger, yall. She can give a girl one lively romance full fireworks!
The Gist: Jackson is a pain in Bianca's butt. From the very first second he walks into her restaurant and threatens to sue her for using his family's bourbon in all of her recipes. That he then asks her to cook last minute for a huge fundraiser? Well that's just beyond the pale. But damn all a girl could really use the money and publicity.
Oh man, yall, these two. Fiery! Jackson and Bianca are both strong personalities, play fast and loose with their emotions and are stubborn as all get out. But they both hide some pretty amazing people under their tough exteriors. Jackson is one fucked up growly asshole. I'll tell you that up front. He's not easy to like early on. Oo fucker! might have gone past my lips a few times. But man once I got him...I got him. He's a prickly asshole but for some very good reasons. Wounded pup in so many ways. And Bianca. She's a tough chickie. Making something of herself, hard working, quick to judge but when she realizes it feels badly. I was totally on board with both by the end.
He closed his eyes. “Christ, you’re like a honey badger,” he muttered.

I crossed my arms over my chest. “I don’t know what that is, but it sounds extremely cute, so thank you.”

His sigh was a tremendous gust of air. “It’s like a large, ferocious weasel with impenetrable skin.”

That was so ridiculous I wasn’t even insulted.
And their romance. Lordy! Yes, it's one of my favorite storylines-- fake mates with a dash of enemies to lovers-- and I loved how it played out. Lots of bumps along the way. Lots of emotions flying. It was a good time. Things are real slow burn, though. Takes them a while to heat things up but it worked and was fantastic.

I did have a couple issues, though.
→Jackson's caring for a little kid which I loved but the storyline was just dropped like oops! forgot there was a kid here! That was disappointing.
→ the heroine is mixed race but you'd never know that from the cover.
→ And the heroine slapped the hero when she was pissed once. That is unacceptable to me.

In the end, though, I had a fantastic time with Burn for You. It's not an easy romance by any means but it's entertaining from the very start as two very strong individuals are forced to deal with each other and admit that first impressions aren't everything.
Jackson “The Beast” Boudreaux is rich, gorgeous, and unbelievably rude to the staff at Chef Bianca Hardwick’s New Orleans restaurant. Bianca would sooner douse herself in hot sauce than cook for Jackson again, but when he asks her to cater his fund-raiser, Bianca can’t refuse, knowing the cash will help pay her mother’s medical bills. Then Jackson makes another outrageous request: Marry me. The unconventional offer includes an enormous sum—money Bianca desperately needs, even if it does come with a contract — and a stunning ring.

The heir to a family bourbon dynasty, Jackson knows the rumors swirling around him. The truth is even darker. Still, he needs a wife to secure his inheritance, and free-spirited, sassy Bianca would play the part beautifully. Soon, though, their simple business deal evolves into an emotional intimacy he’s built walls to avoid.

As the passion heats up between them, Bianca and Jackson struggle to define which feelings are real and which are for show. Is falling for your fake fiancĂ© the best happy ending… or a recipe for disaster?
