Interview w/ Mary Behre-- reluctant psychics, no-nonsense cops + giveaway!

Morning yall! So. Pretty excited today. We've got Mary Behre joining us to chat about her debut book Spirited. I loved this book! It was fun and sexy and thrilling and totally had me smitten. Check out our chat and give her a warm welcome :) Oh and there's a giveaway too for yall that are interested in entering for that.   ~Anna
All Jules Scott wants is to live a normal, quiet life—preferably one that doesn’t include ghosts. Jules’s talent for communicating with the dead has brought her nothing but trouble. Despite her best efforts, needy spirits always find her and draw her into their otherworldly drama. When one implicates her in a series of deadly crimes, she may need to entrust her secrets to the person least likely to believe her.…

Detective Seth English can’t get distracted from the big case he’s working on, not even by his alluring new neighbor. He doesn’t believe that Jules had anything to do with the string of robberies-turned-murders that he’s investigating, but when she keeps showing up in all the wrong places, his gut tells him she knows more than she’s letting on. To solve his case, he’ll need to expose what the sexy redhead is hiding—no matter how impossible the truth may be….

Good morning Mary and welcome to herding cats & burning soup! I'm so excited to have you hear today to talk about Spirited--what a great read! I'm working on gluten free donuts this week for bookclub so thought we could sneak a few while we're chatting. The chocolate dipped ones. I'm just sayin'. Pretty good.

Good Morning! Thank you for having me here. And wow, delicious is right. I love chocolate dipped anything. Well, almost anything. LOL

Ohoh! How about...him?? *looks around innocently* Okay, um, where were we? Ah...okay, now that we're settled, say you had 15 seconds to completely hook someone. What would you tell them about Seth and Jules' story?

A reluctant psychic and a no-nonsense cop are thrown together by a ghost on a mission when the psychic’s purse is found in the hands of the cop’s dead informant. It’s full of humor, suspense and a psychic love-connection.
Yup. Definitely nailed it :) Alright, Could you tell us 3 fun (or steamy) behind the scenes facts about Spirited or the Tidewater series? Think Pop-Up Video.

  • SPIRITED went through more than fifty different title options, including Silence of the Lamb Pajamas.  *bwaha I LOVE that*

  • The Tidewater Series is semi-based on the real Tidewater area of southeastern Virginia where I lived for most of my adult life.

  • Some landmarks in the story are real places that exist in Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
Oh that's pretty neat! Now, was there one thing about Seth that just makes you go all girly and weak in the knees?

Seth is intensely loyal to his family and those he loves. That kind of loyalty is magnetic. And so attractive. Don’t get me wrong, Seth is sexy, but it’s who he is inside that gets me all hot and bothered.

Oh he was definitely one sexy hero. Inside and out :) What about Jules? What was it that just had you loving her?

I love Jules’s determination. She so desperately wants a normal life, but for a psychic who grew up in the foster care system, normal is relative. Still, she resolutely makes goals and vows to see them through.

She really was an awesome heroine. So, this is totally just me being nosy but since Spirited is your debut book--did you do anything exciting after you heard the news it was going to be published? Anything planned for tomorrow's big release?

I got the call SPIRITED sold on Election Day. I almost didn’t answer my phone that night because I thought it was another political polling call. That night, my husband and children took me to The Melting Pot—it’s a fondue restaurant—and I had ying-yang frozen drink in my “Queen of Everything” celebratory glass.

As for my release, I have party planned for Saturday, March 8th. It will be at Books-A-Million in Fredericksburg from 4-6pm. There will be door prizes, lots of food, and people coming from four different states to join me at my very first book signing.

Aw how fun! I know things must be crazy busy for you getting ready for the release so how about a couple just quickies before you head out...

Favorite Man Candy? Pictures are welcome!

My husband is my favorite man candy…but I’ll keep those pictures to myself. LOL *aws*

Favorite scent?

Vanilla Sugar Cookie

I'm totally wigged out by...?

Cockroaches. Vile little beasts freak me out. When my boys want to mess with me, they’ll just say the word to make me shudder.

What was the last thing or weirdest thing you've Google searched?

The many uses of duct tape. I was trying to help my younger child find duct tape crafts. That search resulted in me redefining the search for the future. LOL

Best dessert ever?

Warm gluten-free brownie a la mode.

And before you head out. What's up next for ya?

GUARDED, book 2, in the Tidewater Series, comes out August 5th. I’m already working on book 3, ENERGIZED (working title). These books will wrap up the Scott sisters but there are more Scotts out there.

Thanks so much for coming by Mary!

Thank you for having me on Herding Cats and Burning Soup!
