The Monthly Herd--January Recap--kicking some blogger butt!
The Rebel of Copper Creek (Copper Creek Cowboys #2) by R.C. Ryan (@ForeverRomance)
The last thing widow Juliet Grayson needs is a man in her life. Between caring for her two young sons and maintaining her husband's ranch, her hands are more than full. Then she meets Griff Warren. With his quiet strength and his easy way with her boys, she's tempted to trust him. But if there's anything she's learned, it's that love only leads to heartbreak.Well hello yummy cowboy! Whew! The Rebel of Copper Creek was just brimming with delicious cowboys and military men. Gah, but I do love that combo! And I had a nice time with this one as Griff and Juliet end up spending quite a bit of time together when Juliet and her two little boys find themselves in a dangerous situation--someone is threatening her--and Griff decides to take it upon himself to keep them safe while the threat is eliminated. It was a sweet romance, a lovely setting and full of honest and good-to-their-souls people.
Former Marine Griff Warren never thought he'd settle down. Rebellious and proud, he's always been on his own . . . until the father he never knew he had died, leaving him with land that is his legacy and brothers to share the load. He doesn't need more than that. But Juliet touches something deep inside him—and he wants nothing more than to protect her and her sons. Now if only he can convince her to take a second chance at true love.

I get tagged, tweeted, private messaged all the time with variations of... "omg this so reminded me of you!" or that book you're reading! which...okay...at this point...kinda makes me nervous. lol
And I thought it might be fun to start putting those random and wonderfully weird things people think just scream...me. This one won't always be, erm, family friendly. Heh.

Say It In 5---Fragmented by Stephanie Tyler & Hope Ignites by Jaci Burton
Trying something new...Reviews in 5 points. Eeps!
(dammit they're still pretty long. lol)
Fragmented (Section 8 #3) by Stephanie Tyler
When Dr. Drea Timmons was kidnapped during Section 8’s last mission, Jem did everything in his power to rescue the woman he’d fallen for—a woman unwillingly recruited for one of S8’s most personal and dangerous covert operations. Drea survived, but at a price. The trauma of her capture has rendered her without a single memory of her ordeal—or any recollection of how violently unpredictable her ex-boyfriend, Danny, an Outlaw Angel, had become, or why she had left him.
When Danny threatens to turn Drea over to the feds, she is forced to go on the run and confront a past that is as deadly as her future. As trouble closes in on both ends, Drea has no choice but to trust Jem, the only man who can help her, the only man whose electrifying touch brings back memories—piece by piece—too stirring to forget.
Type: Romantic Suspense
Heat: 3 out of 5

- Oooos sexy fun! This was my first time venturing into the Section 8 series and gah, yeah, sexy good times *nods slowly* as a group of mercenaries throw themselves into danger to save and protect those in trouble. Romance, suspense, incredible chemistry...Fragmented really had it all.
- Quick of it is that a bit back Jem kinda sorta kidnapped Drea (he's a good guy. Swear!) when he and his team desperately needed a doctor. And they got close but a mission went bad and she ended up hurt and losing her memory. Yeah. And now her life is in danger from a scummy ex that's trying to frame her for all kinds of nasty and she's got to put her trust in a team she "knows" but can't remember. It's intense and nerve-wracking and so so good.

Tasty Delights--Hangover Hash + Review--Bringing Home the Bad Boy by Jessica Lemmon (@ForeverRomance)
Evan Downey needs a new beginning. Since the death of his wife five years ago, the brilliant tattoo artist has shut himself away in a prison of grief that not even his work can break him out of-and what's worse, Evan knows his son Lyon is bearing the brunt of his seclusion. Moving back to the lake town of Evergreen Cove where he spent his childhood summers is his last chance for a fresh start.So. Basically from page one of Bringing Home the Bad Boy I was totally smitten and seriously wanting to know these people in real life. Everything about this one just...did it for me. It was just perfectly delicious from food to romance to chemistry and happily ever after. Total reader girl bliss.
Charlotte Harris knows she owes it to her best friend's memory to help Evan and his son find their way again, but she can't stop her traitorous heart from skipping a beat every time she looks into Evan's mesmerizing eyes. Charlotte is determined to stay strictly in the Friend Zone-until a mind-blowing night knocks that plan by the wayside. Now, if they're brave enough to let it, Charlotte and Evan might just find a love capable of healing their broken hearts . . .

The quick of it is that years ago Evan and Charlie both lost someone important to them...a woman named Rae. Evan's wife and Charlie's best friend. They've had to fight their way back to life after the loss that ripped their lives apart and part of doing so brought Evan and his son to Charlie's doorstep. Or, rather, the house next door to her. And it's stirred up all kinds of interesting feelings between them that go way beyond just friendship and being someone's shoulder to cry on.
Guest Post w/ Jessica Lemmon-- Breaking out of...the 'friend zone'
*waves* Morning yall! I'm handing the blog over to Jessica for the day. She's an awesome one so yall check out her post and leave her some fun comment love :D I'll have a review for Bringing Home the Bad Boy up in just a bit. It was...fabulous! And will be HERE. My favorite “Friend Zone” movie is Just Friends with Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart. Best line from that movie: “When a girl decides that you're her friend, you're no longer a dating option. You become this complete non-sexual entity in her eyes, like her brother. Or a lamp.”
I love this idea for a list. Especially since in my new release, Evan makes it his personal goal to push Charlie out of the friend zone. Here’s my advice on how to break out.

So when a family friend approaches him about protecting his daughter, he’s more than ready to jump on board. What Beau isn’t prepared for is the extent of his attraction to his beautiful and powerful client. What began as a simple assignment, just another job, quickly turns personal as Beau discovers he’ll do anything at all to protect Ari. Even if it costs him his life.
Type: Paranormal (psychics) Rom-Suspense

Sooo. In His Keeping. Romantic Suspense meets paranormal woo-woo. Yay! How fun is that?! I had a good time with In His Keeping as Ari's life is thrown into chaos after an attack exposes her psychic abilities and she's forced to turn to Beau and his security team for help in finding her parents who have been kidnapped and in keeping her alive and safe from those hunting her. It was exciting, entertaining and had me turning the pages pretty darn quickly. I was halfway through the book before I realized and had a double take over that. lol

Tasty Delights--Oatmeal Sandwich Cookies + Review (Homemade Decadence)
Joy Wilson believes that everything is better with pie. And caramel. And definitely ice cream. Her world is pretty sweet: she dabbles daily in butter and sugar as her blogging alter ego, Joy the Baker. Her new book, Joy the Baker Homemade Decadence, is packed with 125 of Joy’s favorite, supereasy, most over-the-top, totally delicious treats, such as Dark Chocolate, Pistachio, and Smoked Sea Salt Cookies; Butterscotch Cream Pie with Thyme-Marshmallow Meringue; Mint Chocolate Chip Cake; and Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream. After all, every day is an opportunity for sweets.
Type: Cookbook
Difficulty of Recipe: Easy
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Amazon | Goodreads
Homemade Decadence was an absolutely mouth-watering cookbook. From cover to cover it was beautifully done with gorgeous photos, luscious recipes and a comforting voice from the author as she talked about each of the dishes. It was just beautifully done set of recipes and will definitely be one I use again and again.
Um...yum?! SO many yummy looking recipes and easy to find ingredients. There were also some daring combinations for flavors that while not for me--I'm rather unadventurous when it comes to food--would delight those that like interesting combos of flavors, textures and scents. Ex-- Roasted Strawberry & Balsamic Grits or Apple Pie with a Cheddar-Bacon Crust.

Word from the Herd-- Are YOUR comments important to a blogger?
Happy weekend yall!
So today I wanted to talk about commenting :D
I know. Scary word for some but so important for a bunch of reasons from morale boosts to community building and opportunities for bloggers.
And these reasons to comment apply to you if you're an author, reader or blogger.
(I'm not one that thinks authors have to avoid commenting on blogs but that's a post for another day)

Razed (Barnes Brothers #2) by Shiloh Walker (@BerkleyRomance)
Keelie doesn’t believe in the “perfect man.” But the men who are worth the trouble are usually taken—like her business partner Zach Barnes. After a string of bad luck and the lost chance with Zach, Keelie decides that maybe flying solo—and living with suppressed desires—is the key to happiness.
As a photographer, Zane Barnes has an eye for the human form, and his eyes can’t get enough of Keelie’s curves. Unfortunately, Keelie is like most women—always fawning over his little brother, Zach. Zane is about ready to give up, but then a few stolen moments at his brother’s wedding have him thinking maybe there’s a chance there after all. Now he just has to prove that the perfect man does exist…for her.

Ooooo now...that was good time! Razed was such a fun romance and damn it had me smiling like a fool for most of it.
I loved these two. Zane's had a thing for Keelie for years without her knowing. She always just thought he was joking when he made comments about dating her but oh he has had it bad and the two together definitely have some fireworks happening. I loved watching them start to figure out their relationship. Keelie who tries so hard to not form bonds and hold people at a distance and Zane who has his own issues but a huge support system with his brothers (who were a freaking riot!). There was a sweetness to these two that just grabbed my heart and had me smiling. They had some pretty funny moments too.

When her husband is killed at Waterloo, Lilias Fairchild takes up his cavalry sword and boldly storms the front, earning herself the nickname Angel of Vengeance. But there is another angel on the battlefield who is just as single-minded, and just as ruthless…
Alistair Whitmore, the Marquess of Angelford, is a British spy. Code name: Angel. Still haunted by a first love felled by assassins, his mission draws him to Waterloo, where he is captivated by a beautiful and mysterious woman fighting amongst the men—a woman who becomes his most intoxicating memory of war.
Two years later, Lilias and Angelford lock eyes in a crowded ballroom and the memory returns in an exhilarating rush. The history they share, and hide from the world, is as impossible to ignore as the heat of their attraction. But it’s that very connection that spells doom for their scandalous affair. When someone from the shadows of their past proves a dire threat to their lives, passion might not be enough to save them.

There I was, thumb cramping as I scrolled through my Facebook news feed on my phone, when suddenly my jaw dropped. Someone created a blog just for me to follow! Why? Because I (1) have a herd and (2) burn soup. I also burn cookies. And chili. And fish. And a host of other things. Accordingly, I clicked ‘like’ on Facebook immediately, then came over here and read all sorts of fun things. Then Anna read my second book, IN BED WITH A SPY, liked and reviewed it (made me blush, even!) and now I get to visit here!
Therefore, in honor of herds and of soup, I thought I’d give you a rundown of my herd and my kitchen, in pictures and in words.

The Farther I Fall by Lisa Nicholas (@BerkleyRomance)
Gwen Tennison got out of Afghanistan alive but scarred--and then got stuck on her sister's couch. When she's offered a job managing the U.S. tour for rock music's hottest, most troubled star, it seems like just the thing to snap her out of her post-injury funk. Her instructions are simple: start the shows on time, and keep him clean.Oh but I was feeling some mad love for The Father I Fall! Nicholas totally knocked her debut book out of the park. I couldn't put this one down and was totally captivated by a sexy rocker and his tough as nails love interest who is former British Army and now tasked with keeping him in line as his tour manager. With some strange happenings and some creep-tastic letters showing up it was both hot and sexy and a little unnerving as these two figured out how to deal with both each other and the things happening around them.
But Lucas Wheeler may be more than she can handle. Though he's drug-free, he still feels the need, and his gorgeous, capable new tour manager is a challenge he can't ignore. Fame and infamy have forced Lucas to protect his heart, but soon he finds himself craving Gwen's touch, and yearning to give her control. And Gwen might feel the same way.
But it's not just the mutual heat between them that is keeping Gwen on her toes. Someone is following Lucas from city to city. With more than just her job on the line Gwen must decide how much she's willing to risk to keep Lucas safe.

Blogger to Author (3)-- Using a BCC when mass emailing--Please, please, please do this. Please.
Blogger to Author is a bit of an advice column for authors with tips and suggestions about working with bloggers, blogging in general and making the most of the platform.Hey guys!! Hope yall are all doing fabulous today. So a really quick Blogger to Author chat for this month. This one is about emails and if you're sending out a mass mailing.
After 3 years of blogging I've noticed trends and methods I think can help or harm authors and their goals and wanted to put something together to hopefully create better author/blogger relations and give some insight to authors who may not be bloggers themselves. It's all based on interactions that have happened here on herding cats & burning soup over the years.
One big thing for a LOT of bloggers is keeping their email fairly private. It's a huge aggravation--aka make a girl twitch-- type thing when mass emails are sent out and the person sending them does NOT BCC the email addresses. And it happens a LOT in our community. Not just by authors. But tour companies, publishers, etc. And oh my word is it frustrating.
Guest Post w/ Angela Addams-- Whew, yall! She's got some HEAT for you!
Morgan Stills is a woman without a future. At least, that’s what the carnival psychic tells her. Love is foretold as well, but too bad. She’s already been marked for death.
She no sooner flees the psychic’s tent when she’s confronted by the biggest wolf she’s ever seen. A wolf that talks to her—right before she’s enveloped in a black cloak and dragged away.
Caleb was born for one purpose: follow the burning of his tattoo to find and protect his destined mate, the Huntress. When he rescues her from Lazarus, the king of beasts, what thanks does he get? A swift kick in his tender parts that leaves him writhing in a ball of pain.
Morgan quickly realizes her destiny lies with the Order of the Wolf. The only catch—she must choose between two sworn enemies who vie for her body, heart, and soul. Marked as a Huntress, thrust into an ancient feud between werewolf and Hunter, she must pick up a sword or die. And somehow learn to live without the man she is destined to kill.
Warning: Be prepared for fiery hot, melt-your-panties men, all muscle and sinew, searching for their one true mate. Committed, hot, and horny. What could be better?

So, I read somewhere that this is the blog for naughty readers. As a writer of erotic romance I felt it was my duty to uphold that reputation. With the release of my latest Order of the Wolf book, Wolves’ Bane, I thought I’d dabble a little with second person and give you an extra hot and heavy scene from Morgan’s perspective.

And now...she's got to work for the bastard! helping him win an insurance battle after one of his paintings is stolen. Oh yes there's...he's more than ready to get his revenge on her for what she put him through years earlier. Hell of it is...he wants her too. And it was glorious!

For years Serafina McPhee has been engaged to marry the heir to the Duke of Hartholm and for almost as long, she has been struggling to find a way out of that engagement. When he suddenly dies, she does not mourn but thrills at the idea that she will be free. Unfortunately, best laid plans go awry when the next in line for the title, her intended’s cousin, Raphael “Rafe” Flynn is forced to take over the engagement. But Serafina knows Rafe’s reputation as a libertine and wants nothing to do with him, either, even if he is devastatingly handsome.
She proposes an arrangement: she will agree to the marriage and provide Rafe with his heir and spare. Once she has done her duty, he will let her go. Rafe is intrigued both by her beauty and by her utter disgust with the idea of being his bride. Women normally fall at his feet, not cringe away from him. However, since their arranged marriage is not something he can escape, he agrees to her terms.
But when he finds out on their wedding night the truth about her torture at the hands of his predecessor, he finds himself driven not just to fulfill his bargain with his new bride, but to introduce her to desire. While they move closer together, surrendering to wicked pleasures, dangerous emotions may violate every agreement they’ve made.

Hi everyone and a big thank you to Anna for allowing me to stop by today. It’s a very exciting week for me. Yesterday my 49th book was released. The Other Duke, an erotic historical romance set in the Regency period, is also my first book on a return to being a completely indie author. I’m very excited about this change and the future, but it’s also a bit nerve wracking. Of course I’ve always been a “make lemonade” kind of girl. And, in truth, so are the characters I write.

The Trouble with Texas Cowboys (Burnt Boot, Texas #2) by Carolyn Brown (@SourceBooks)
When Sawyer O'Donnell takes a ranch job on a whim, he lands smack dab in the middle of a Texas-sized feud! The Gallaghers and the Brennans are at each other's throats to woo the red-headed spitfire, Jill Cleary, and stake a claim for the Fiddle Creek Ranch.Well, that was a real good time. I mean. You know it's gonna be a lively time when things kick off with the heroine holding the hero at gun point with a shotgun. And The Trouble with Texas Cowboys definitely delivered with a slow burning romance that was sweet, heartwarming and impossible not to smile over as Jill and Sawyer decide to team up for their own protection against a crazy little town that's feuding and set on dragging them into the mix.
Jill makes Sawyer's blood boil. They argue, they banter, but Sawyer soon goes from being driven crazy to crazy in love. Damned if he knows how that happened. But now that it has, how does he compete with two men that can give this cowgirl a lifestyle beyond her wildest dreams?
