At Wolf Ranch (Montana Men #1) by Jennifer Ryan (@avonbooks)

After years on the rodeo circuit, Gabe Bowden wants nothing more than land of his own and a woman who will claim his heart for more than one night. When he has the chance to buy the enormous Wolf Ranch spread, he snaps up the incredible deal. Everything is set, until Gabe rescues a woman on the deserted, snowy road leading to the property, and the half-frozen beauty changes everything.

Ella Wolf rushes to her family's abandoned Montana ranch after her twin sister is murdered. She knows she's next . . . unless she can uncover a secret hidden somewhere at Wolf Ranch. The last thing Ella expects is to be rescued by a rugged rancher with his own agenda. A man who almost makes her forget how dangerous love can be.

As an unlikely partnership sparks into something so much more, and a killer closes in, can Ella and Gabe learn to trust one another before it's too late?

Oh...my word....how have I waited this long to read Ryan?! My cowboy loving heart has been seriously neglected. At Wolf Ranch was incredible! Yall know I don't read blurbs so I was thinking sexy winter cowboy romance and instead I got, well, sexy winter cowboy romance but mystery and suspense and a damn fine start to a new series too. Hot dayum but that's an amazing combo of cowboyliciousness.

The quick of it is that Ella witnessed her twin sister's murder and now she's on the run and retracing Lela's last days to figure out what her sister had uncovered that put her in danger and that's now got Ella's life at risk. And that's led her to their family ranch in Montana and a gorgeous cowboy that comes to her rescue in the nick of time and decides to keep her.

He got out of the truck, scooped her into his arms, and carried her up the icy walk to the front door.

"Why are you always picking me up?"

"Easiest way I could think of to get my hands on you." Okay, maybe that was more truth than the moment called for, but he'd never had good timing with women. Probably why his bed remained empty the last eight months.
I freaking LOVED these two. Ella has gone through hell. Lost half of her soul and yet this woman doesn't back down. She pulls herself together and sets to avenging her sister and putting her killer behind bars. She's sweet but bold and so very smart even though people don't seem to notice. And Gabe. Sweet Mary. I want a Gabe. Why the devil can't men in real life be like Gabe?! He's solid and working hard towards his future and even when it all falls apart and he loses everything (due to the killer) he does't mope or lash out but sticks with Ella and keeping her safe. I adored him. He's just sexy as all get out and an incredible guy.
"It's not fair, Gabe. It's just not fair."

"No, honey, it's not. But you'll get through this."

"I will, because I have you."

"For as long as you want me."

"I might just keep you."

"What's with this might crap?"
The two--even though they come from different lifestyles--were amazing together. The chemistry is there from the start, their bond cemented by a life or death moment and weeks spent working together. They're hot and sweet and so comfortable a fit. There's not a ton of sex in this one but dayum! What was there...totally squirm-worthy.

Adding in the mystery of piecing together Lela's last days and uncovering their killer's (they knew him but I don't wanna spoil it) betrayals and schemes was intriguing and heartbreaking at the same time. Greed and jealousy can cause such astronomical pain. It was awful watching Ella work through all of her losses but wonderful seeing how Gabe was there for her time and again and watching them come together.

All in all, At Wolf Ranch was just a heartbreakingly beautiful story. It showed the worst in some and the best in others. How they can triumph and flourish despite horrible losses and pain. How the right people can bring out your strengths and provide comfort when you're weak. Everything about At Wolf Ranch was beautifully done from the romance and the setting to the suspense and the battle of good over evil. Ryan quickly swept me away and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. If you haven't tried Ryan yet, run, don't walk, and pick up a copy posthaste! Your cowboy loving heart with thank you ;)

Have you read Ryan? What did you think?
