2 stars--Sweet Ride (Playing for Keeps #3) by Cathryn Fox

I have been loving on this trilogy something fierce. Fun, sexy, make you smile goodness. And I was really excited about diving into Sweet Ride and spending time with Jag as he tries to convince a girl he knew in high school (and thought of as the one who got away) to spend a week with him on his dude ranch to see if they have what it takes for something more.

I liked Alix and Jag. Both hearing a little bit of time they knew each other in high school and the spark that still simmered. They had a fun bit of teasing between them and some very hot moments once she settled down at the ranch and decided to explore some erotic fantasies with him. They were enjoyable people and I really wanted to know more about each of them. And, well, yummy hot sex. Total plus! And whew it got hot!

But.... unlike the previous novellas, Sweet Ride felt like what it was--a quickie novella. While the other two reads in the series were short and fast, as well, they left me feeling satisfied and giddy for the next book and getting to spend more time on this dude ranch and with it's sexy owners. Sweet Ride though just didn't feel complete. It didn't give me that excited pull or satisfied feeling in the end. Instead it felt rushed. It needed...more of something. More pages, words, time spent between them. There were a lot of elements mentioned during the novella--fantasies, bits of their personal lives, a weird attack that felt out of place. The problem was that none of it felt fully explored. It was just a hit on this or that then moving on to the next thing. It had the heat going and nice characters but I never really felt drawn or connected to them like I have others in the series.

It wasn't a bad read exactly. It's one that works if you've got a crazy intense day on your hands and you need an hours escape (maybe not even that long) for some hot and heavy with a side of sweet but it's not one I'd say is really memorable or entirely satisfying. I closed the book with the thought of 'eh, okay, moving on, what's next on the reading list' instead of a 'damn, I'm sorry to see that end.' which is never what you hope for, ya know? Now. That being said. Book one and two were fantastic and totally suggest picking those up.

Do you get nervous about picking up last books in a series/trilogy?

erotic romance, cathryn fox, cowboysPrivate investigator Curtis Jagger has always had a thing for Alix Harris. She was the darling of their high school--gorgeous, popular, class president...and, he suspects, just as naughty as she is nice. Now Jag has the opportunity to show her what she's missing. To show her that sometimes being bad can be sexy as hell...

Alix has always done what she's supposed to, and it's gotten her exactly nowhere. Determined to please herself--
