After Hours by Cara McKenna-- *5 stars! Pick of the Litter*

A dangerous infatuation with a rough and ready man…

Erin Coffey has been a nurse for years, but nothing’s prepared her for the physical and emotional demands of her new position. Needing to move closer to her dysfunctional family, she takes a dangerous job at Larkhaven Psychiatric Hospital, where she quickly learns that she needs protection—and she meets the strong, over-confident coworker who’s more than willing to provide it.

Kelly Robak is the type of guy that Erin has sworn she’d never get involved with. She’s seen firsthand, via her mess of a sister, what chaos guys like him can bring into a woman’s life. But she finds herself drawn to him anyway, even when he shows up at her door, not eager to take no for an answer.

What Erin finds even more shocking than Kelly’s indecent proposal is how much she enjoys submitting to his every command. But he can’t play the tough guy indefinitely. If they want to have more than just an affair, both will have to open up and reveal what they truly need

Type: Erotica/Contemporary Romance
Heat: 3.5 out of 5
Rating: 5 out of 5

McKenna made working on a psych ward so fucking sexy. I loved everything about After Hours. Hot hero, strong/determined heroine, unique setting, sex that was so fucking hot it could singe the pages and just the right amount of drama added into the mix to make things even more exciting.

After Hours was my first time on a psych ward...Erin's first time too, she's a new nurse on the ward, and it was a bit of culture shock for the both of us. But I really loved the setting for this one. Getting to see the dangers, the frustrations, meeting the patients and seeing how their mental illnesses were handled. It was all really fascinating. The hunky co-worker was a definite bonus.
"Don't look at me like that," I warned him, the beer making me bold.

"Look at you how?"

"Like I'm wearing edible underwear, and there's a place card in my panties with your name on it."
I loved the chemistry between Erin and Kelly. The sex scenes were incredibly hot--they're a little rough, a little dirty and make-you-bite-your-lip worthy. But even out of bed these two just have a sizzling dynamic between them.

Kelly's a big freaking guy. Alpha all the way, totally embraces his domineering side and is used to people pretty much doing what he wants. Erin just happens not to be one of them. And I loved that. Their little battles and their reactions to each other were so fun to watch. From their blow ups and frustrations to the humorous and steamy moments. They're just fascinating characters. Complex and simple at the same time and people I felt like I could really know.

This isn't your typical romancy romance. It's not flowers and sweet words murmured over dinner--well there were flowers, but they were second hand flowers so not thinking those count. But it was definitely a romance. Granted, a unique one, but then so are Erin, Kelly and the lives they lead so it suited them perfectly I could have easily spent another 300 or more pages with these two and let me tell you--there were some colorful swears when I realized I only had like 4 pages left. And that's why this one gets Pick of the Litter. It was fantastic start to finish and was one I wasn't ready to give up. If you like your romances with a little bit of edgy realness to them then this is one you need to make time to read.
