My Soul to Save (Soul Screamers #2) by Rachel Vincent

When Kaylee Cavanaugh screams, someone dies.

So when teen pop star Eden croaks onstage and Kaylee doesn’t wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can’t cry for someone who has no soul.

The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad’s ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend’s loyalty to the test. But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls: a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld—a consequence they can’t possibly understand.

Kaylee can’t let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk...

Bean Sidhe, Reapers, hellions, soulless pop stars, trips to the Netherworld, a little family drama. My Soul to Save was definitely NOT boring! I couldn't put this book down and just flew through it!

The three main characters are fantastic and I adore them all for different reasons. After two books, though, I'm still very much a Nash girl! He's my favorite character of the lot. It's the whole soothing thing I think. I love the calming effect he has on Kaylee and others. And that not all that much can knock him too off kilter. I know so many people LOVE Tod and, yeah, he's a great character but man he is just like that bratty little cousin or sibling that drives you up the wall. You love em but at the same time want to pinch the everliving heck out of them too. Always popping in when things are getting a bit intense between Kaylee and Nash (and oh that was pretty good! love how things between Kaylee and Nash are treading the line between YA and being just a bit adult), or he's randomly showing up in the back seat of the car when least expected. Would totally freak me out. Nash and his "Damn it, Tod!" every time was cracking me up. As for Kaylee she's a wonderful young heroine. The girl has some fricking guts and a heart of gold the way she wants to help people. I do wish she wouldn't feel so guilty when she's not able to save someone but that's mainly because I just don't want her to feel badly about herself and the good she does.

I love the little touches of humor that Vincent throws in from time to time. More than once I had to bite back a laugh so I wouldn't wake everyone up. I think I'd really like being friends with Emma, Nash, Tod and Kaylee.
“It's not like I'm actually wishing for more dead cheerleaders. I'm just saying, if someone has to go..."

Tod snorted. "I like her."
So, I wasn't a huge fan of the victims in this story and had a hard time pulling up any sympathy for them. They were well done and I liked the plot revolving around them but, really, they got themselves into the mess even if they didn't fully grasp the consequences. I mean, who in their right mind thinks that selling their soul is a good idea and that it won't come back to kick them in the butt? Even if you are only a teenage how could you be so blasted stupid? At least Addison had a slight excuse of wanting to protect her family when she agreed to sell hers. But the rest selling out for fame and fortune even with a warning? Grrrr! Once they did realize their mistakes and needed help they still managed to not seem all that grateful for Kaylee, Nash and Todd's help or bothered that they were risking everything to help them. That grated on me a bit. I did like the storyline though and the little jabs at Hollywood but, yeah, no sympathy from me. Maybe that's why I'm a Nash girl since he didn't seem to want to get involved either. Hmmm.

Vincent created an intriguing world with a fast moving, interesting plot as well as wonderful characters that are strong, thoughtful, caring and have the perfect touch of humor. I'm very much enjoying this series and look forward to seeing what else Vincent comes up with for Kaylee and the boys.

Have you read the Soul Screamers series? Are you a Nash or Tod fan??

    1. Yay another Nash girl! Seems everyone I know is for Tod! I'm leaning more and more towards Soul Screamers too instead of the Shifter series even though I loved it too :)
