Snow Angel by Jamie Carie

When Noah Wesley heard the faint sound outside the door of his remote Alaskan mountain cabin during a violent nighttime blizzard, it was no less than the voice of God that urged him to take a closer look, soon to discover his snow angel.

Unconscious and more than half frozen to death, her name, as Noah would later learn after boldly saving her life, was Elizabeth, a beautiful young woman, fragile yet fierce, and intent on discovering gold like so many others in that region during the late 1800s.

But why Elizabeth was so drawn to the gold, and why she would chase it even through a pounding storm that no man would dare face, was a secret to be shared with no one else, not even at the inviation of Noah's deep blue trusting eyes.

A couple months back I was at the used bookstore and saw Snow Angel. The story of life during the gold rush in Alaska sounded kinda interesting so I decided to give it a try. I'm really glad I did. Snow Angel was a wonderful story with a unique setting that I found fascinating and characters that felt realistic, honest and really caught my heart.

What I loved most was the feel of Snow Angel. The glimpse into the danger and excitement of the gold rush and seeing how much people risked for a chance at striking it rich. I was so impressed with the incredibly vivid picture Carie was able to paint and can't imagine going through what Noah and Elizabeth experienced as they trekked across the wilds of Alaska. It's freaking insane what people were willing to go through. There were quite a few gut wrenching-hold-your-breath moments that had my palms sweating and had me flying through the pages to see what happened next.

All of the characters were just as nicely developed. Elizabeth was a pretty flawed heroine and honestly a little frustrating at times but you could still really sympathize with her. She's had a hellish life and can come across a bit desperate and unstable as she tries to escape her past. She really reminded me of a puppy that's only ever been punished and doesn't know how to respond when someone is finally kind to them which just broke my heart. Noah was a nice balance for her. He's an amazing hero and a solid, capable man that anyone would want in their corner. Most of the religious influence in the book came from Noah who spoke with God. Praying for guidance and such. It never felt too preachy though which I appreciated. He's hard working and reliable and omg he has dimples!! I really can't resist a hero with dimples. Just a heads up. If you're looking for a steamy relationship this one really isn't gonna do it for you. It's very tame with scenes fading to black.

The secondary storyline was just as intriguing as Elizabeth and Noah's journey together. Early on you find out that Elizabeth's mother was forced to give her up for adoption and throughout the story there's bits and pieces of her decades long search for her child. Talk about heart breaking.

Snow Angel was a great read and very moving. I loved the world Carie created and how realistic if felt. I personally would have liked a little more focus on the relationship between Elizabeth and Noah as a couple but it was still a satisfying experience that had me pulling for all of the characters involved. I'll definitely be picking up another book by Jamie Carie in the future.
