Guest Post w/ Jessica Scott + giveaway

Woot! Alright dearlings we've got Ms Jessica Scott joining us today for an awesome guest post and giveaway. She writes wonderful Military based romances and has a new short story out, Anything for You. I've read the first two full length books in the series and absolutely loved them. So, handing things over to Jessica for a bit. Give her a nice welcome please ladies!

From the author of Because of You comes an all new Coming Home short story.

Sergeant First Class Shane Garrison has spent a year recovering from his combat injuries. A year spent in the arms of the woman of his dreams. But loving Jen comes with a price: every time he touches her, he faces the uncertain fear that loving her might mean losing her forever.

Jen is a breast cancer survivor and with Shane, she’s found a man who loves her despite her scars. But her scars may be too much for their love to survive.

As their love grows, so does the risk to Jen’s life. And Shane must make the toughest decision any man can make to save the woman he loves.

Thanks so much for having me here today! I love the name of this site because, well, I always joke that I can burn water (yes this has actually happened).

In the spirit of cooking disasters, I thought I'd share for y'all the time I thought I'd blown up my kitchen. I'm not really sure how it happened, honestly, but I now understand the need for kitchen timers.

So one day I was boiling eggs. My kids are really picky eaters and hard boiled eggs are one of the things they actually eat. So I put about a half dozen eggs on the stove in some water and figured I'd come back in about 10 minutes.

Well there is a reason kitchen timers exist. Burned baked goods not withstanding, they serve a very valid purpose. So I got distracted doing something - probably twitter- and the next thing I there was a loud pop in the kitchen.

And I could not for the life of me figure out what the heck was going on. So I run out there just in time to see an egg explode out of the pan and all over my counter and microwave.

It was awesome. And by awesome I mean one heck of a mess. But I learned a valuable lesson about kitchen timers and letting the interweb distract you.

Jessica Scott is a career army officer, mother of two daughters, three cats and three dogs, wife to a career NCO and wrangler of all things stuffed and fluffy. She is a terrible cook and even worse housekeeper, but she's a pretty good shot with her assigned weapon and someone liked some of the stuff she wrote. Somehow, her children are pretty well adjusted and her husband still loves her, despite burned water and a messy house.

Oprah has called her. True story.

Her debut novel BECAUSE OF YOU launched Loveswept, the first Random House digital imprint.

She's written for the New York Times At War Blog, PBS Point of View Regarding War, and IAVA. She deployed to Iraq in 2009 as part of OIF/New Dawn and is currently a company commander stationed at Fort Hood.

Most recently, she's been featured as one of Esquire Magazine's Americans of the Year for 2012.

  1. I REALLY should NOT be laughing at Jessica's kitchen disaster. But it's funny. Only because it didn't happen to me.

    Thanks you guys!

  2. Jessica, I so sympathise!
My disaster is just boilding the cr*p out of things. I was boiling potatoes once and forgot about them. The pot was a total loss and the kitchen stank for about a week!

    1. Good Morning Anna and Jessica! Sad to say had the same result when my husband decided to have a late night snack of hot dogs! Woke up to a house full of smoke, and hot dogs exploded in the kitchen! It was not only a mess, but a stinky mess, as I'm sure your exploded eggs were Jessica.
No need to enter me in the contest, I have Because of You, and Anything For You , and I cherish them both. Because of You really touched my heart, and it was such a thrill to know Shane and Jen were still going strong.
To Iraq and Back is an amazing story too, especially knowing every word was true.
Thanks for the opportunity to chat........I so enjoy the blog Anna, and can't wait for Jessica's next story! xo

  7. Thanks for sharing today Jessica. I am actually a good cook (reason why hubby and I struggle with weight issues ;)) but I have had my fair share of burned items and poorly cooked items myself. The lesson I learned in the kitchen... never try to cook a rice dish in a crockpot! When I was working fulltime and the kids were younger, I wanted to have family dinners cooked by me. Time was short, but I thought it was important. So, I would start the crockpot in the morning (or put it on one of those timer things) so dinner would be ready to eat when we walked in the door. The crockpot can be your friend ;) So, this one day I wanted to make this rice caserole type dish. It said to only put the rice in a certain amount of time before you were ready to eat, but I didn't want to have to wait for dinner once we got home. I knew there were soups out there that had rice, what could go wrong if I just threw everything together and started the crockpot to start cooking the correct amount of time based on the rest of the recipe. Mush. That is what can happen. Nasty, unedible, mush. LOL Hubby was a sweetie and ate it anyway -- wow, that man can eat anything -- but does get some good joke value out of it until this day.

  12. Hey Jessica, welcome! I've boiled all the water out of a pan of boiled eggs before. :D That's why I bought an egg cooker, it holds seven eggs (I'm not sure why such an odd number), and you put a small amount of water in depending on how hard you want the eggs, hit the button, and it goes off when it's done. Best thing I ever bought because I make boiled eggs all the time and I definitely get distracted while they're cooking.

  14. I'm actually pretty good in the kitchen and have never burned water but I've burned several burner covers (the lovely things you can use to cover your burners when they're not being used). And if I don't win these books I'll be buying them for my new Kindle.

  15. Oh wow, I'm not a great cook but I have to say I've never exploded eggs before. Potato, on the other hand, is a different story entirely. Talk about a mess!

  16. Thank you for hosting this author. I read her book Because of You a few months ago & loved it. Ms. Scott gave me some insight into what our servicemen & women experience & I appreciated that. They sacrifice more than we know or tend to think about. Her books are very well written & I look forward to reading more from her.

  20. Can't say I've had that happen...thank goodness! Now it sounds like something that would happen to my teenage daughter if I left her alone in the kitchen. She hates to cook!!!

    Thanks so much!
