Interview w/ Elisabeth Staab--man candy, F-bombs and...Punky Brewster!

Party girl Alexia Blackburn is only hanging around the vampire compound until her best friend—the queen—has her baby. After that, nothing is going to stop Alexia from getting back to daylight, safety, and feeling like a normal human being. But leaving the vampire world has one big catch...

Head of vampire security Lee Goram has hated and distrusted humans for centuries. Feeding on vampire blood has kept him strong...but now it's killing him—and he's horrified to discover that Alexia may hold the key to his cure. He'd rather die defending his king than admit his weakness, but time is running out for the great vampire warrior...

Morning Elisabeth and welcome to the blog! It's so nice right out I thought we'd chill out on the deck, have a little fruit salad, take in the view *whispers* I'm having a home office built and there may be some choice man candy viewing *looks around innocently* I mean, erm, the building process is really quite fascinating. *nods* Yes. Uh, lets go with that. So...new release coming up! Woot! Can't wait to hear about it!
That’s totally awesome, thank you for having me! I’m so excited to be here to talk about Hunter by Night. Are you gonna eat your pineapple? Hey, those workers sure are working hard.
What were we talking about?
Uhhhh...book man candy! The second best kind *nods* Alright. 10 seconds. Lee's looking mighty fine on that cover. What would you tell someone about Hunter by Night to get them well and truly hooked?

Centuries-old, human-hating alpha vampire falls in love with a defiant human, finds his tender side, slays many evil bad guys, and massacres some Victoria’s Secret underwear.
Excellent! Any *waggles eyebrows* juicy behind the scenes gossip about these two you can share?
  • In an early draft of Hunter by Night, Lee and Alexia were so excited to get to the smexing his pants didn’t come off in a single love scene. (I went back and *cough* removed his pants in a couple of them. It was hard. Very hard.) *bwaha love it*
  • Ducks are mentioned twice in Hunter by Night. Lee is not a fan.
  • Alexia loves the F-bomb, in many permutations. If you take a shot every time she swears, you’ll never finish reading. One instance, the use of the word “douchefuckery,” was put in the book on a dare by my author buddy Amy Lane.
Omg. I love her already! I love the word fuck! *que total girly crush* Now, I'm all about my heroes--yes I'm a total tart and love them ALL--and can't wait to meet Lee. Even if he has a thing about humans *flails*. lol What is it about him that just totally did you in and had you all ready to do a girly swoon?

That’s a really excellent question. What’s funny, is I’m a girl who loves her beta heroes—I married a funny, intelligent, nerdy guy. I dated the big brawny guys when I was younger and they often turned out to be as pushy and aggressive (and okay, sometimes downright rude) as their exterior suggested. So I didn’t expect to adore Lee as much as I did. And oh, God, did I ever. Really though, he was there from the beginning. In book one, King of Darkness, he spoke before the story’s hero. Lee is entirely alpha, but I think I always knew he had deeply-rooted pain, and that under his hard edges and prickly shell he had a lot of love. His loyalty was always clear, his sense of humor, and his inner strength. I guess if I had to pick a winner I’d say his loyalty, which is huge for me. From day one he protected Alexia, even when his attraction to her made him uncomfortable.
Ahh he sounds amazing but like Alexia will totally have her work cut out for her. What was your favorite moment with her?
My favorite actually happens in book two of the Chronicles of Yavn, Prince of Power. Lee embarrasses Alexia, and she kicks him in the balls. It’s hard though because I can’t right now think of any moment between them I don’t love.
Wells. That's definitely one way to get your point across *nods* Alright how about some quickies...

Favorite Man Candy?
SO many favorites. I just got done marathoning six seasons of HBO’s Oz back to back (which I have to tell you was a whole lot of brutality to take in a straight shot, but I got sucked in and I couldn’t stop). So right now my favorite Man Candy is Chris Meloni. Or Lee Tergesen. Or, you know, both at the same time. ;)

Same time works for me!

Favorite "couldn't live without it" snack?
Chips and Guacamole
Weirdest thing in your purse right now?
Two large, plastic, animatronics spiders. But like, that’s not that weird, right? I bet lotsa people have those.  *I...don't event have words ::shudder:: lol*
Best "burning soup" moment?
So one night I got distracted while reading and cooking (a thing I do far too often), and next thing I know I’ve got two pounds of vermicelli boiling away with not enough water. It got all stuck together and burnt in a lump. Looked kinda like Frankenstein’s brain.
Plain socks or totally wacky?
Totally wacky. I was wearing them mismatched before Punky Brewster made it cool. Does anybody remember her?  *omg loves! And, uh, yeah of course my socks are matching right now. Swears!*
Something you'd totally do if you could get away with it?

Crash the Grammy’s
Nice. lol Other than scheming up a Grammy's crashing plan what's up next for you after Hunter by Night's release?

Well, since the Chronicles of Yavn wraps up with Hunter by Night, I am excited by the idea of branching out in some new directions. I have a couple of contemporary things in the works—the second book in the HaleStorm series, and an angsty small town NA story that I started for-EVER ago and had to put on hold due to other deadlines. Not sure what else, yet. Summer is coming, so I’m looking forward to getting more time with my kids, too.
Aws, always good. And dang all that sounds pretty fun! Thanks so much for coming by Elisabeth! It's always a blast getting to hang with ya :) Especially if there's a little man candy ogglin' happening. Heh.
Thank you so much for having me! It’s always a pleasure, and you really do have a lovely view here. *points to a hot construction worker* *steals a pineapple chunk*
