Dragon Mine (The Hidden #0.5) by Jaime Rush

His Dragon, her magick, a dark mystery, and hot sparks!

Kirin is summoned home to Miami when his father goes missing--the man who ruined his life, and his relationship with Elle, by being a suspect in her mother's disappearance. When he runs into Elle, sparks fly, especially when he discovers her father is missing, too. Suspecting that their disappearances are linked, they must combine his Dragon power and her magick to find the truth in the darkest shadows. But as their desires flare again, can their burning passion overcome their past—or the danger that the future holds?

Type: Paranormal Romance, Novella, Shifters-Dragons
Heat: 2.5 out of 5
Rating: 3.5 out of 5

I am such a sucker when it comes to second chance romances and dragons. There is just something about these arrogant, smooth talking rakish shifters that are so badass and cheeky that just does it for me. And I really enjoyed Dragon Mine. It's just a quick taste of what's to come with the series but it was fun, satisfying and has me ready for more.

Rush packed a lot of story into her novella. Not only are Kirin and Elle back in each others lives after a terrible break up and dealing with their feelings for each other--ones that have never faded with being apart--but they're also dealing with an evil magic that's been let loose and the disappearance of their parents. There's action and drama and all sorts of discoveries about their family histories that keeps things interesting. It took me a little bit to get used to the terminology in this world but it's not too bad once you get a hang of it.

I really liked both Kirin and Elle and seeing them together. I loved that they were getting their second chance to get things right and actually dealt with the hurts and bruises they'd given each other. There's a nice tension between them that comes from knowing the other so long and a bit of snark as they work through their rocky past. The one steamy scene was sweet and sexy but not overly graphic.
"This is about figuring out what's going on and nothing else. No talking about the past or being naked unnecessarily. Got it?"

"Are you talking about you being naked, 'cause I'm fine with that." He shrugged. "Just saying."

She snored. "You know exactly who I'm talking about, the one who has no modesty."

"Modesty is for sissies." He tugged at his collar. "Besides, clothes are constricting."
I had a good time with Dragon Mine and enjoyed the combo of shifters and magic and am looking forward to seeing where things will go from here.. For those that hate cliffhangers you're kinda sorta safe. There's closure for the couple and the battle they were waging but there were some loose ends with one of the storylines that we'll hopefully see more of in future books. This one is worth the read if you love paranormal romance and just want a quick dragon fix.
