Loving Lady Marcia (House of Brady #1) by Kieran Kramer {plus Giveaway}

Of the three Brady sisters, Lady Marcia has always seemed the girl most likely to lead a perfectly charmed life. But after a handsome cad breaks her heart, she swears off love and devotes her life to teaching girls at a private school. In spite of her family’s wish for a London debut, Marcia is happy where she is—until terrible news sends her back to the Brady clan…and into the arms of an unexpected suitor.

A dark and dashing earl who knows Marcia’s past, Duncan Lattimore is surprised by what a fascinating and independent woman she’s become. Marcia, too, is surprised—by the fiery attraction she feels for Duncan. But why—why—must he be the brother of the scoundrel who broke her heart? Why must Marcia’s rival at school forbid her from seeing him? How can this lady possibly resist this fellow—when they know that it’s much more than a hunch…?

Type: Historical Romance

It's so fun trying out a new author especially when you end up really loving the world and characters they create. Loving Lady Marcia was my first from Kieran Kramer and definitely won't be my last. Once I got into the flow of her writing style I found myself completely engrossed in the story she spun of Duncan and Marcia who have known each other for years but aren't on the friendliest of terms. The whole enemies to lovers storyline is one of my favorites so I had a great time with this one. Add in some family drama and head strong characters and it was a fun little read.
She looked away, and he pulled her chin back around with a gentle finger.
"You should be kissed," he said. "Every day. By a man who adores you."
Duncan was hands down my favorite thing. I absolutely adored this man. It's so hard to resist a hero that bucks proper society and their opinions and does what he thinks is right. And that's Duncan to a T, especially when it comes to raising his young son as a single parent. These two had me melting all over the place they were so sweet together. Marcia was a delightful heroine as well. Determined and focused on what she wants, caring and compassionate and every once in a while a little bit wild. They're really stand up people you can be proud of and wouldn't mind knowing in real life.

Even though it's not the steamiest of reads there's a wonderful chemistry between Duncan and Marcia. They  have a fantastic combo of fiery and sweet moments together that makes for an enjoyable read. Kramer did a wonderful job portraying their inner struggles and what makes them tick. You really get to know these two and care about what happens to them which for me is always a wonderful experience.

If you ever watched the Brady Bunch you might catch the little glimmers of the show in the book since it provided a bit of inspiration for the series. Just like in the show there are some sugary sweet moments but all in all it really worked for me and finding the subtle similarities made me smile{ex. the sisters are Marcia, Cynthia and Janice}.

I'd definitely recommend Loving Lady Marcia to anyone who likes sweet and heart-touching stories and amazing heroes. It was a delightful read that has me eagerly awaiting book 2.

  1. What a lovely review! Thank you, Anna!! And I had to laugh about the steaminess. I always think I'm writing these shockingly steamy tales, but apparently not, ROFL!!! I gotta read 50 Shades...

    :>)

Thanks again, and I am thrilled you enjoyed Marcia and Duncan's story!!!

    Hugs!!!

    Kieran :>)

    1. ::snort:: Oh Kieran my bookshelf would do you in ;) lol. I'm more a Cherise Sinclair/Kallypso Masters girl instead of 50 Shades. They're SOO good! But I love the sweet romances too :)

Thanks for the wonderful read. I'm still all aswoon over Duncan :) He's one that's going to stick with me for a good long while!

  2. Anna, I want to read these books you're talking about. I think I need some Sex Education 101, LOL!!!!

No, really, I *am* looking for ways to keep the sensuality strong and possibly make it stronger in my books. Maybe I need to let my inner vixen out when I'm writing...I usually write with a dog snoring right at my feet, and two cats staring at me while I walk on a treadmill.I doubt Barbara Cartland did that! She wrote wearing feather boas and slinky gowns and big diamond earrings. Actually, she dictated a lot of her books. Talk about a diva!!

I do have a scene in the book I'm currently writing involving food--I did that in When Harry Met Molly, too. In fact, I had a 69 scene in a tent in that one. It was my first book, and I got so many calls from my mothers' friends about that tent scene, maybe it made me shy!!

LOL!!! At any rate, I did love your review, and it really helps me to hear what readers think. I love to ponder what you say--after all, I write these books for you.

Off to write...Happy October here on your blog.

    XOXO

    1. Oh my goodness Kieran you'll get a serious education. Every book of Cherise's I learn something new. They both write BDSM and are really focused on the steamy bits. LOL. If you ever do read one I'd LOVE to know your reaction :)

I've got When Harry Met Molly sitting on my shelf waiting for me. Just have to get through some review books and then I'm diving in to check out the tent scene. I can't imagine writing anything even remotely steamy and having people I know read it. I'd never stop blushing! Loving how Barbara Cartland wrote. That's an absolute hoot!

      Happy writing!

    2. Kieran -

I loved that scene in When Harry Met Molly and I'm probably older than your mother and her friends! I guess you can blame my "outlook" on being in college in the 60's! NOTHING is too steamy - as long as it's written right!

  3. Kieran always has the most clever and fun covers and titles. With winding and easy to read stories to go along. LOL Sorry, Kieran, not sure I would call them steamy tales. But you write great characters and terrific stories.

  4. I needed something to brighten up my day and I loved this post!

I loved the back and forth between you and Kieran and the information she shared about her feelings when writing "smokin' scenes"!

I wish I had your technique when my sons were teenagers! I never could get anything interesting out of them!

Kieran - I love your characters and the way you somehow manage to make me actually feel like I know and understand their point of view and feelings.

There is always that one scene when I get so tied up in what's happening I feel like I did when my sons were younger and wanting to ask them "What ever were you thinking when you (said, did, etc.) - you know that Mom thing we do."

One of the best things about Loving Lady Marcia is that its BOOK I - which means we have more great books to look forward to in the House of Brady series!

  11. I didn't realize the books had a Brady Bunch theme until I read the full post, but just the combination of the name Marcia and the look of the cover model made me think of the Brady Bunch :)

P.S. - I'm a fan of Cherise Sinclair's book too; I like the comment about being an equal opportunity reader.
