Quote-tastic/Review-- One Snowy Night by Jill Shalvis

I do love me some Jill Shalvis. One Snowy Night was pretty cute. It's a "snowed in" theme but...on a car trip. This quote. I don't know why, but it totally made me laugh.

"I...don't understand."

"I want something between us."

She froze. "Like...a condom?"

One Snowy Night (Heartbreaker Bay #2.5)

One Snowy Night was a cute Christmasy treat--a little sassy, a little sexy, and a whole lot snowy. See, Rory, Max, and his pup Carl are head home for the holidays and land themselves one heck of a road trip. Snow storms, car trouble, exuberant pups and an "elephant" riding along in the truck with them--some bad blood from back when they were teenagers. Yes. It's one adventurous and eventful evening that just might change everything.

I liked Rory and Max. They drive each other crazy, still harbor some bad feelings over the past, but damn they have one serious case of the lusts for each other despite it all. It's always fun watching that dynamic. The cozy quarters during the road trip made for some heated moments as both anger and a dose of lust flared. There's a tiny bit of sheet time thrown in the mix, too.

And then there is Carl. I loved Carl the dog. He totally stole the show and provided so much comic relief as these two dealt with the past. Big, slobbery, and totally charming.

This one is a novella but, whew, things at the end moved a bit fast even for that and just wrapped up too nice and tidy between Max and Rory but also between Rory and her family who she's had a rocky relationship with. Still a fun read, though, and a nice way to kill an hour. I just needed a tiny bit more at the end.

***At 99cents this was priced right but I really don't think this was 160 pages. Maybe if you include all the excerpts at the end. The actual story ended just shy of 60%
It’s Christmas Eve and Rory Andrews is desperate to get home to the family she hasn’t seen in years. Problem is, her only ride to Lake Tahoe comes in the form of the annoyingly handsome Max Stranton, and his big, goofy, lovable dog Carl.

Hours stuck in a truck with the dead sexy Max sounds like a fate worse than death (not), but Rory’s out of options. She’s had a crush on Max since high school and she knows he’s attracted to her, too. But they have history… and Max is the only one who knows why it went south.

They’ve done a good job of ignoring their chemistry so far, but a long road trip in a massive blizzard might be just what they need to face their past… and one steamy, snowy night is all it takes to bring Max and Rory together at last.
