Cross Your Heart (Broken Heart #7) by Michele Bardsley

After the death of her husband-and her dreams of motherhood-Elizabeth Bretton returned to the family estate in Broken Heart, Oklahoma. Little did she know she would also give up her life as the Silverstone heiress.

But escaping the past isn't that easy-especially with a vengeful ghost trying to kill her, a 150-year-old mystery to solve, and an outrageously hot were-jaguar named "Tez" trying to get into her boudoir...

Type: Paranormal Romance, Vampires, Shifters, Ghosts, 1st person
Heat: 3 out of 5
Rating: 5 out of 5

Sweet Mary I can't remember the last time I laughed so much over a book. Cross Your Heart was fangfreakingtastic! ::snort:: Honest to goodness I loved the whole thing and would put it in my top 10 favorite reads of 2012. Stranded on an island and can only have 5 books? Yeah, this one would make the list. The characters, the romance, the teasing and tension, the mystery and chaos that descends on the town. It was one of those perfectly done combinations that sucked me in completely.

Tez was an adorable hero and a terrible tease. If he thought it, it came out of his mouth and damn if the boy wasn't just a little...scandalous. Gah I LOVE kitty shifters. There's just that cocky playfulness to them that's so damn irresistible. And the boy's a dirty talker. Be still my heart. There are some really freaking hot scenes where he talks up the prim and proper Elizabeth that are fan yourself hot. Elizabeth was a lovely capable and independent woman. I really enjoyed her humor and that she was an older heroine (she's 43, he's 33) and has the whole dignified prim personality. It was so much fun to see her reactions to Tez. There's a whole porno voiced GPS scene that was brilliant had me nearly in tears from laughing so hard. The two were so damn cute together and perfect for each other even if they were complete opposites.
"You wearing the black ones?" Tez asked, as if he didn't even hear me.

I gaped at him.

His gaze dropped to my waist and he spent an inordinate amount of time perusing my southern region. "'Cause I really liked those."

"Must you insist on embarrassing me?" I hissed.

"I dunno. Are you really embarrassed?"

I wasn't. Not much. I was actually both irritated and thrilled that he flirted so outrageously with me and didn't care who was watching. Then I had another flash of insight: He was letting Damien know of his interest in me. It was the testosterone-filled equivalent of yelling, "Dibs!"

Now I was completely irritated.

"Cotton panties, full-cheek coverage," I said, plopping the ice bag into his hand. "Beige. With an extra-wide waistband."
"You are a cruel woman."
The mystery surrounding the upheaval in town was great as well. And just a bit creepy too. Elizabeth is being attacked by some unknown ghostie and he's mega pissed. All kinds of strange things are happening to the couples in town. Stabbings, disappearances, hysterics. It kept me wondering what exactly was going on the entire time and I loved that. It was all a fantastic balance to the romance between Tez and Elizabeth. And for you long time readers you finally get to find out about the curse of Broken Heart.

Cross Your Heart was just a fun book and truly a pleasure to read. I've always enjoyed Bardsley's writing but she really outdid herself this time. And yeah, I know I'm gushing but it was so damn good I can't help myself. If you love vamps and shifters with lots of humor you'll love Cross Your Heart. It's one of Bardsley's best yet and one I know I'll be reading over and over again!

    1. Aw thanks :) They're really so much fun. A bit campy but man do I love them. They can be read as stand alones pretty easily too which I like.
