A to Z & Tasty Delights: Brookies...

Some changes for yall that have been around. Tasty Tuesday has a new name & look. And yall are all welcome to join in on it if you'd like. I'm still going to post a new recipe every Tuesday but yall can do as you'd like. Post every week, post once a month, post on Thursday or Sunday or what have you. Disasters and Delights are welcome :) It's just about having fun and sharing ideas with everyone else!

And this week's Tasty Delight is....Brookies!
Cookie/Brownie hybrids!! Yum!

Yeah. That's a brownie with a cookie on top.
I saw this on my Facebook feed and just had to give it a try...

Simple ingredients. I opted for boxed cookies/brownies because there wasn't really a recipe with the original photo and I wasn't going to waste made from scratch on a trial and error thing. But you can totally use homemade too!

Mix up your ingredients...

Spray your muffin tin with flour based cooking spray. Then spoon in brownie batter.
My 2nd attempt I made in a shallow cupcake tin. Use one rounded tablespoon of batter per tin.
It'll be about 1/3 full on a regular muffin tin.

Next the cookie step. If store bought...round out your cookie balls then flatten.

Place one flattened cookie round on top of each batter filled muffin tin.
Bake for 13-18 minutes. Keep an eye on it.

And you have...Brookies.

They're actually really good. The softness of the brownie and a denser cookie on top. Not bad at all.

Okay, so a little cooking funny. My first attempt on these didn't go so well because I was trying to figure out the proportions. So I went back to the store and stocked up on brownie mix to try again. I'm sitting upstairs waiting for them to finish and thinking..."why the heck does my house smell like coffee?" I don't drink the stuff. Then I bit into a brownie and I'm going "why the devil do they taste like coffee??! Am I having a stroke or something?!" But that's toast right? If you smell toast. Not coffee. Pfew! I'm still thinking something's really wrong here though and then my gaze lands on the remaining box of brownie batter. Mocha brownie batter. LOL Had no idea they even sold that. Good to know!

So, have you ever had a Brookie?
Do you have a favorite cookie/brownie? Or a favorite hybrid treat?

2012 A to Z Post: Book Signings

Brookie Recipe
Prepared brownie batter- store bought or homemade
Prepared cookie dough- store bought or homemade
Flour based cooking spray
  • Preheat oven to 350
  • Spray muffin tin well with cooking spray
  • Pour 1 rounded tablespoon of brownie batter into each muffin tin. No more than 1/3rd of the way filled.
  • Round your cookie dough and flatten into disks. Then place one on top of each brownie batter filled tin.
  • Bake for 13-18 minutes. Baking time will vary. You want your cookie to be browning lightly. You can prick the brownies with a toothpick to test. Mine baked for 16 minutes.
  • Un-mold and serve.
