Hi all! I’m Tonya Burrows and I’m meme-jacking Quote-tastic today. You may know me from my romantic suspense series, HORNET, or from those troublemaking Wilde brothers in my Wilde Security series, but this month I jumped into paranormal waters with my newest release VISION OF DARKNESS. Don’t worry—there’s still plenty of suspense as DEA agent Alex Brennan works to uncover the secrets of a small Maine town. But there’s also a few ghosts. And a team of sexy as sin psychic super soldiers. What more can you ask for in a paranormal romantic suspense, amirite?

So today’s quote is one of my favorites from VISION OF DARKNESS. Our hero Alex has just spent the night in jail and his teammates rallied to free him…by less than legal means. I love this scene because it’s filled with the bro-banter I find so entertaining. Plus Alex’s teammate Kai is just plain hilarious.
“Kai,” Alex said through his teeth, “don’t make me hurt you.”

“Hah. I’d kick your Irish ass into next month.” He laughed and slapped Alex on the back hard enough to rattle teeth. “So like I said, your woman’s a smart cookie. Nick was the last person you called, so she redialed and explained what was up. He called Sully, and here I am. Your lawyer.”

“Yeah right. Since when do you have a law degree?”

“Since Sully forged the documents.” He wiggled his brows. “I passed the bar exam in Maine about an hour ago too.”

“Says the mercenary to the fed. I don’t want to hear this.”

Kai ignored him. “Nick wanted to play the part, but we didn’t think he looked lawyer-y enough. It’s that whole Cowboys and Indians look he has goin’. Jacob—hah, can you image Jacob as a lawyer? And Mal—well, he still needs to work on his people skills before we let him out in public alone.”

“No kidding.” Alex loved the guy like a brother, but Malcolm Cole was about as trustworthy as a starving pit bull trained to fight. About as brutal too. “So that left you.”

“That left me,” Kai agreed. “I shine up nice when the sitch calls for it.” He tugged the knot of his tie, loosening it, and reached for the driver’s side door of a rented SUV. “Don’t worry, these cops have nothing on ya. A monkey could poke holes in their case.”

Alex slid into the soft leather passenger seat of the car. “Well, that explains one thing.”

“What’s that?”

“Why Sully really sent you.”

“Oo oo ah ah,” Kai said, deadpan, and stepped on the gas.
Thanks to Herding Cats for letting me take over Quote-tastic today. It was fun!

Undercover DEA agent Alex Brennan doesn’t believe in the paranormal, despite the exhausting nightmares that reveal things he shouldn’t know. When sleep deprivation causes him to make a horrible mistake on the job, he is driven to find answers. Dreams guide him to a lighthouse in Three Churches, Maine, where he finds an inexplicable and comforting familiarity in the arms of the lighthouse’s beautiful keeper, Pru Maddox.

Deadly misfortune has long plagued Pru’s family, the result of a curse “The Green Lady” placed on the lighthouse. Skeptical, Alex searches for less ghostly explanations, though he can’t deny that the town has had more than its fair share of disappearances, suicides, and accidents. As their passion simmers, Alex digs deeper, and his dreams turn violent, frightening, and very real.

To keep Pru safe, Alex must embrace his abilities and unravel the lighthouse’s mystery. Except someone—or something—wants the past to stay buried...and will do anything to keep it that way.
