Holy cow was there a lot going on in the lives of Zara and Ryker...
1] A work case involving one of Zara's friends and the fall out from an abusive marriage that tangles her up in it's dangerous dynamic
2] A mysterious young arrival that's somehow linked to Ryker and his brothers and who's demanding help that'll put their safety at risk
3] a case with the FBI involving a serial killer that Ryker and his brothers are involved with.
I really thought it would be too much and no way would everything feel satisfying but Zanetti made it work. Some storylines ended, others set up future storylines, some will be ongoing through the series (it seems).
Zara and Ryker could be difficult--he could be a little over the top alpha protective, she could be a little too trusting and naive--but I really enjoyed them. They fight for what they want and those around them--even at their own expense. They're in that awkward moving from booty call status to wanting more which was pretty dang entertaining. And holy cow were they hot together! This one definitely upped the heat and hit near erotic levels. I mean. Yall. They're hot and heavy and make-a-girl-tingle good.
He clasped his hands loosely between his knees. "Come here, Zara."Zanetti did an amazing job with the secondary characters, too. The bond and love between Ryker and his brothers is really incredible. This is a spin off of the Sins Brothers series so same world just a different set of "brothers" with some awesome guest appearances that'll make previous readers giddy-sigh-happy. I loved all of the interactions with them.
That voice. Deep and dark, with a commanding, sexual edge. Her body reacted instantly, her nipples hardening as she became wet. "Don't tell me what to do," she whispered, fighting need along with her temper.
"You like me telling you what to do."
"Only in bed," she burst out.
He smiled, the expression gentle and dangerous all at once. "Then get in bed."
There were some excellent action scenes, some frustrations when things didn't go as planned, some nice twists and connections made. Just nicely done rom-suspense. I'm definitely excited for the next book. I loved Ryker's brothers and can't wait to see how things turn out for each of them and with the group as a whole. Edgy excitement and seriously fan-yourself-good. Grab this one!
Paralegal Zara Remington is in over her head. She's making risky moves at work by day and indulging in an affair with a darkly dangerous PI by night. There's a lot Ryker isn't telling her and the more she uncovers, the less she wants to know. But when all hell breaks loose, Ryker may be the only one to save her. If his past doesn't catch up to them first...
