4 stars-- About That Kiss (Heartbreaker Bay #5) by Jill Shalvis

Oh yeah. Jill Shalvis. So you know it's gonna be a quote-tastic post. I had such a good time with About That Kiss and actually read it twice (might have forgotten to review it that first time, oops!)

So this first one just made me laugh. Gotta know yourself, right? lol

"We're both pretty messed up. You realize that, right?"

"In a very large way," he agreed.
This one the heroine had been in an accident...
"Kylie," he said, voice rough, dropping to his knees in front of her.

Aw, look at that. He was worried about her, his eyes reflecting that and a lot more. In spite of himself, he cared about her. She knew that much. It wasn't entirely his fault that he was so emotionally challenged, she thought, putting a hand on his jaw. "You're so pretty, Joe. It's really a shame that you're such a dumbass."
The two spent a lot of time tracking down people and doing some stakeouts and surveillance.
She squirmed in her seat, and again he met her gaze. At whatever he found in her expression, a full-blown smile lit up his face, transforming him into a regular guy for a minute. "It's been a long time," he said.

"Since...?"

"Since I've had fun on a stakeout."

She laughed. "I thought you were going to say since you've had a woman in your car who you weren't trying to sleep with."

"Who says I'm not trying to sleep with you?" he asked.

Note to self: Don't tease him. He's better at it than you.

"Come here, Kylie."

Oh, Jill Shalvis. She does make me laugh. I had fun with About That Kiss. These two were fiery. Stubborn, pigheaded, sexy as all get out. It was fun watching them butt heads and drive each other crazy. In and out of the bedroom.
The Gist: A penguin has been stolen. And Kylie...she wants it back. Even if it means begging the sexy yet supremely irritating Joe for the use of his tracking skills. She's just gonna have to resist strangling him...or climbing him like a damn tree.
Joe? Yeah, Joe was pretty lickable. He takes the world on his shoulders and is serious about protecting those around him. He's the tall quiet type with a soft spot for little dogs. Growly with a soft squishy middle. And Kylie. She's pretty cool. A woodworker and a kind heart. And determined. Both had hard childhoods but really turned into remarkable people.

I loved them together, too. They have a good bit of fire and chemistry between them and I enjoyed their time together. They both kind of baffle each other which was entertaining. And they definitely steamed up the bedroom or occasional entry way floor.

There's a good bit of mystery as they play a game of elimination over who could have stolen her penguin figurine. Got them in a little bit of danger now and again and kept me guessing. There were some funny bits and some that tugged at the heart during the investigation, too.

About That Kiss had it all-- A little mystery, a whole lotta chemistry, friendship, darling pets and a smile-worthy romance that hit the spot.

When sexy Joe Malone never calls after their explosive kiss, Kylie shoves him out of her mind. Until she needs a favor, and it’s a doozy. Something precious to her has been stolen and there’s only one person with unique finder-and-fixer skills that can help—Joe. It means swallowing her pride and somehow trying to avoid the temptation to throttle him—or seduce him.

No, Joe didn’t call after the kiss. He’s the fun time guy, not the forever guy. And Kylie, after all she’s been through, deserves a good man who will stay. But everything about Kylie makes it damned hard to focus, and though his brain knows what he has to do, his heart isn’t getting the memo.

As Kylie and Joe go on the scavenger hunt of their lives, they discover surprising things about each other. Now, the best way for them to get over “that kiss” might just be to replace it with a hundred more.
