4 stars-- Cowboy Bold by Carolyn Brown

Oh, yall, Cowboy Bold was good. The romance took a little bit of a backseat but I really didn't mind. I just had such a good time with this one.
The Gist: A ranch that runs a summer program for at risk children. A sexy cowboy. A fiery cabin mother. Lots of adventure and smoldering looks. Oh yes.
The storyline is what got me the most with Cowboy Bold. Yes, I loved Cade and Retta. I enjoyed their slow burn romance. But the storyline with the kids. It's what got me. I loved meeting the 8 kids. They're from a variety of situations and have had hard lives. They're angry and uncertain when they arrive. They fight and test boundaries. And slowly with the help of the ranch owners and hands they start to find confidence and learn skills. To form friendships and trust. It was so damn touching and made me both ache and smile for them. It's a truly special group of people who took on these kids and tried to change their lives.

Now Retta and Cade were great, too. He's all sexy cowboy with a heart of gold and ready to jump all in. She's a bit fiery, stubborn as a mule but caring as all get out. They're good people doing good things and it's impossible not to love them. Their romance is a little slower since, well, they had 8 kids they were looking after plus his brothers and the ranch staff all up in their business. Yeah, a lot of chaperones. lol But it was easy to see them together and root them on.

All in all, a lovely time was had. I wasn't ready to leave this group of kids and the people supporting them. I really hope there will be tidbits about them as the series goes so we can see how they're all doing once they go back home.

Every summer Cade Maguire looks forward to opening his Longhorn Canyon Ranch to underprivileged city kids. But this year, he's having no luck finding a counselor for the children-until Retta Palmer walks through his door.

Flat broke after selling everything she owns to pay her father's medical bills, Retta is thrilled to hear of an opening for a counselor position. She's not as thrilled about the ranching part, or the sexy cowboy with beautiful blue eyes who's her new boss.

After being left at the altar two years before by his fiancée, Cade isn't sure he can take another heartbreak. And Retta isn't even sure she wants to stay. But the sparks between them are absolutely undeniable. And with a couple of lovable kids and two elderly folks playing matchmaker, Cade and Retta may find that the best way to heal is with each other.
