Interview w/ Anne Barton!!

A Portrait of a Lady

…or is it? The risqué painting owned by Benjamin Elliot, the earl of Foxburn, features a stunning beauty with sapphire eyes, golden hair, and creamy skin. Ben recognizes this particular English rose the instant he meets her—though she's wearing considerably more clothing. In person, the demure debutante is even more irresistible…

In desperate need of money for her sick mother, Daphne Honeycote had posed for two scandalous portraits. Now she must hide her secret to save the Honeycote family name. Ben's possession of one painting makes him an insufferable thorn in her side—and yet he may be her best chance at finding the canvas's companion. As she becomes drawn to the dark-tempered earl, can Daphne risk laying bare the secrets of her heart?

*Squee* Anne! Come on in. Come on in. I just love your Honeycote series and can't wait to hear all about Once She Was Tempted. I love a little bit of scandal and it just sounds so good! I just pulled some snickerdoodle muffins out of the oven so why don't we go sit out on the deck with those and chat?
I’m so happy to be here! Snickerdoodle muffins? Yes, please!
LOL, I've been dying to try these muffins. Alright, so if you had just a few seconds to totally hook someone what would you tell them about Once She Was Tempted?
A hot, tortured hero with a bad attitude meets a sweet, innocent heroine—who might have posed for a couple of scandalous portraits. Oh, and he has one of them.
Heh, gah that is such an awesome set up Anne. So, can you tell us 3 fun behind the scenes facts about Once She Was Tempted and the Honeycote series?
  • The hero, Ben, was inspired a little by Dr. Gregory House from the TV show House. He’s got a wry sense of humor and a war injury that makes him retreat from the world—until he meets Daphne. *omg Anne I can totally see that!*
  • If Daphne were living in 2013, she’d be a physical therapist with a soft spot for kids. She’d also have a closet full of killer dresses that her sister Belle (a fashion designer) made for her.
  • My favorite scene in the book is an auction. And that’s all I’m going to say about that.
Oooo I haven't gotten to the auction yet. I can't wait! So, what was that made you go all *girly swoony* moment that had you falling for Ben? What about Daphne?
There’s a fireworks scene where Ben lets down his guard, just a little, and simultaneously realizes two things. 1) That Daphne could make him happier than he ever thought possible, and 2) that he’s utterly and completely wrong for her. My heart broke for him!
As for Daphne, I love the moment when she comes into her own. There’s a fun, dramatic scene that takes place in a ballroom, and it’s a turning point for her.
I just love when they let their guard down a little. Now, when you're not lost in the world of Regency London what keeps you going and busy?
I have a husband and three teenagers, so we’re busy with the usual stuff: homework, sports, laundry, and grocery shopping—it’s hard to keep the pantry stocked! I also have a day job that I love, so it’s a balancing act, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Oh goodness that would definitely keep a girl busy. Alright just a couple silly ones real quick before you head back to your crazy busy world :)

Absolute favorite regency romance item?
A reticule.
Favorite color shoes?
Silver and Cinderella-like.
Weirdest thing you've ever Google searched in the name of research?
I don’t know if it’s the weirdest one, but yesterday I googled “men’s underwear in the Regency.”
Favorite Man Candy?
Chris Pine, Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, and Aragorn *sigh*
I'm completely obsessed with...?
Downton Abbey and Dance Moms
Oh, nice. Thanks so much for coming by Anne. It was so nice meeting you! I'm heading back in to visit with Ben and Daphne for a while. I'm having such a good time with them :)
