Lover Reborn (BDB #10) by JR Ward

Ever since the death of his shellan, Tohrment has been a heartbroken shadow of the vampire leader he once was. Brought back to the Brotherhood by a self-serving fallen angel, he fights again with ruthless vengeance, unprepared for a new tragedy. Seeing his beloved in dreams—trapped in a cold, isolated netherworld—Tohr turns to the angel Lassiter to save his former mate. The only way to rescue her is for Tohr to love another. As war with the lessers rages, and a new clan of vampires vie for the Blind King’s throne, Tohr struggles between an unforgettable past and a hot, passion-filled future. But can his heart let go and set all of them free?

Sometimes, unfortunately, you have to say good-bye to a series you've loved. And for me that was what Lover Reborn amounted to. Blerg. Really just nothing about it worked for me other than some small appearances by a secondary character and a pup that joined the crew. Other than that there were WAY too many storylines happening instead of focus on the actual hero and heroine. Though I don't know that it would have been any better with them as the focus because really...Tohr was an asshole pretty much the entire time and No'One was pretty bland and forgettable.

It was really hard not liking Tohr. He's one that in the past I loved. And that I felt so badly for after he lost his mate. But the guy is a total prick who does nothing but treat his current heroine like shit and uses her to try to deal with his Shellan's murder and saving her. And No'One. I just. I don't know. Guess she was supposed to bring sympathy out of me for her hard life but really I just found her uninspiring.

And the romance...so incredibly lacking. It's like it forgot it was a paranormal romance. There's lots of sex between all of the different storylines. But no romance. At all. With any of them. Everything was mean, cold and clinical which, yeah, not a turn on in any way.

This series used to be such incredible paranormal romance. Now though it's like it's got pnr ADD. It's...everywhere. There were more than 6 storylines outside of the main couple and it was just too much. Past characters having relationship troubles again, future couples having trouble, a whole slew of new "bad guys" and on and on. And none of it...made me care about any of them. I was just left frustrated and unsatisfied by the fractured feel and lack of focus.

So, for me, the BDB is over. The last 100 pages (of an near 600 page book) were the only saving grace and even with that I won't be picking up any further books and will just stick to those first 4 or 5 that were amazing. Though I seem to be one of the few who wasn't enamored with these two. From my Goodreads friends they nearly all gave it 4s or 5s. Stuns me to see since a lot of us usually agree on books but there ya go. If you love the series hopefully this one worked for you more than it did for me.
