Tasty Delights--Oatmeal Sandwich Cookies + Review (Homemade Decadence)

Joy Wilson believes that everything is better with pie. And caramel. And definitely ice cream. Her world is pretty sweet: she dabbles daily in butter and sugar as her blogging alter ego, Joy the Baker. Her new book, Joy the Baker Homemade Decadence, is packed with 125 of Joy’s favorite, supereasy, most over-the-top, totally delicious treats, such as Dark Chocolate, Pistachio, and Smoked Sea Salt Cookies; Butterscotch Cream Pie with Thyme-Marshmallow Meringue; Mint Chocolate Chip Cake; and Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream. After all, every day is an opportunity for sweets.

Homemade Decadence was an absolutely mouth-watering cookbook. From cover to cover it was beautifully done with gorgeous photos, luscious recipes and a comforting voice from the author as she talked about each of the dishes. It was just beautifully done set of recipes and will definitely be one I use again and again.

Um...yum?! SO many yummy looking recipes and easy to find ingredients. There were also some daring combinations for flavors that while not for me--I'm rather unadventurous when it comes to food--would delight those that like interesting combos of flavors, textures and scents. Ex-- Roasted Strawberry & Balsamic Grits or Apple Pie with a Cheddar-Bacon Crust.

There were recipes for all types of dishes deserty dishes from brunch to cake, cookies drinks to ice creams and a handful of different types of crusts.

The photos were lovely. Very homey and made me want to just lick the pages. Nearly every recipe was accompanied by a photo of either the dish or ingredients which was wonderful to see. And they were all very nicely done.

Oh...my god. Yall. I tried the Oatmeal Sandwich Cookies with Peanut Butter Frosting Filling and Sweet Mary! They were freaking AMAZING! Like if cookies could give out orgasms THIS would be the cookie that would take up the challenge. Might not look like much but seriously ohmigod. There was SO much happy happening in my mouth. lol I took a batch to the USO with me for a shift and one of the guys came in and snagged one as he walked by, took a bite and totally came to a standstill and I could here him going 'Ohmigod that is so good.' lol One of the other volunteers said they were delicious as well. So...yeah...try these cookies ;)

Super easy.
First up is making the cookie dough.
It seems pretty plain looking from the outside but nutmeg, cinnamon, pecans and vanilla sure gave it some serious depth of flavor.

Form into balls and bake. They'll flatten a bit. Using a scoop to try and get them about the same size is fairly important since you'll end up making sandwiches out of them.

And then there was the frosting.
I have a devil of a time making frosting for some reason but this whipped together perfectly and was absolutely amazing. Like eyes rolling back in your head good. I so wanted to lick the bowl. lol

And...cookie sandwiches. These were easily in my top 10 cookies. They're rather surprising in how amazing they were and really were decadent. I'll be making these again no doubt in my mind.
