Freakn' Cougar (Freakn' Shifters #6) by Eve Langlais

Someone’s killing shifters in prison, and Patricia needs help catching the culprit. The cougar enlists the help of Stu and Ricky, a techno geek and a reformed criminal, a mismatched pair, who turn out to also be her mates. But Patricia’s already loved and lost one man. Does she dare allow herself to care again?

Older isn’t just wiser, it’s sexier, or at least that’s what a socially challenged wolf and a bad boy panther think. Forced to work together to catch a killer, Stu and Ricky soon find out they’ll have to learn to do more than tolerate each other when they realize one hot forty-something cougar is their mate. Can they find a way to work together and make their cougar purr?

Ahhh Langlais and her crazy shifery goodness. The woman is just brilliant and always puts together a fun read that's unexpected and entertaining as hell. They're always a bit quirky, funny and just flat out sexy. And Freakn' Cougar--an older shifter heroine and her two younger shifter heroes definitely entertained as they set out to hunt down a serial killer praying on incarcerated shifters. And, maybe, get a little nekkid fun time squeezed in along the way too.

The quick of it is that Stu and Ricky have been snagged by Patricia and her bosses to go undercover into the prison system as bait for a serial killer that's murdering shifters that have been locked up. And Patricia will be on watch as one of the guards. Of course nothing is quite that simple or goes as planned...

I really enjoyed all three of the characters and that they were each so unique but managed to somehow...work as a trio. Patricia's a tough law enforcement agent that's still dealing with the loss of her mate and not interested in looking for love again even if the fates seem to be granting her another chance to find happiness. With not one but TWO mates this time around in the form of Stu-- a goofy, awkward, slacker who hacks computers and plays video games and turns into one sexy pup and Ricky-- and a former bad boy who still looks the part, is a total alpha cat and gonna claim his woman no ifs, ands or buts. Lord help her. These two aren't smooth but damn they're determined. lol
"I get it. You find me attractive, and you want to bang me. Sexual compatibility is not something to base a whole future on."

"And, yet, isn't that how most relationships start? First, you notice the exterior package, and your brain sends a message along the lines of 'Hey, this broad is hot.' Then your eyes meet, and there's a little spark, a shared moment where you're like, 'I want to get to know this gal.' Next thing you know, you're talking and making out."

"Or slapping the forward jerk and stomping away."

He grinned.
There were so many funny scenes between the guys that had me chuckling. They both want Patricia something fierce, are different species and forced to live in a cell together for weeks--with Stu playing the part of Ricky's jail house bitch and the two *hangs head* I mean. They were just a trip as they head off. I loved watching the three try and deal with what the fates had handed them when none were looking for or really interested in being part of a menage.

Since the majority of the story takes place in prison you'd think that would cut down on the smexy times. But. Yeah. There's some creative and determined shifters working here. It's not too hot and heavy but they definitely rack up a little skin time during their investigation and it's a real good time.

Overall Freakn' Cougar was an entertaining shifter menage. Great characters, a pretty neat setting and set up, a little mystery on the whodunits involving the serial killer, smexy times and even though there are some more serious moments as they deal with their fated menage and Patricia deals with moving on from her lost mate there's a lot of humor that keeps the story light and fun as well. It's a good time and definitely has me wanting to check out the earlier books in the series.

More Eve on herding cats!
