4 stars-- Enchanted by the Highlander (A Highland Fairy Tale #4) by Lecia Cornwall

Yall. Highlanders! Or, well, kinda this time. But first a quote!

"I am in my sister's house, and unarmed," she said. "But I do have a dirk, and I'm every bit as skilled with it as my sisters are." She bit her lip, and he suppressed a groan at the tantalizing wee gesture. "Do I need to wear it?"

He sent her a look of utter innocence. "Not against me. Unless you plan to kiss me again."

Her eyes widened. "I did not--" She shut her mouth with a snap, and her lips rippled. Oh, but you did... he didn't need to say it aloud. He simply sent her a lazy, knowing grin. "I thought-- I understood-- that it was a mutual decision, made in the heat of the--" She stopped again. She lifted her chin and stared into the air. "I don't know what you mean, sir."

That made him laugh.

I can't get enough of Cornwall's deliciously clever fairy tales with their Highland twist! And, yall, Enchanted by the Highlander left me enchanted as promised and completely smitten.

The Gist:
Gillian is an agreeable lass so when her father promises her hand in marriage to his elderly friend...she goes along with things. There's a snag, though. Her heart belongs to another. The very man tasked with making sure she arrives at her arranged wedding safely. And who is entirely improper for her since he's *gasp* a sassenach! Oh, yall. There's gonna be some dramas.
I loved Gillian and John. Completely. They're both far from how the world views them. Gillian isn't meek or quiet like her family believes. She's thoughtful and has a fire burning inside her that craves an adventure. And John. He's an outsider living in Scotland after his family disowned him but he's far from the scandalous rogue everyone believes. He's a good heart and a fighter who protects and provides for others even if they don't entirely trust him and his English blood. That whole pesky sassenach bit, ya know?

I adored them as a couple. That they saw through the outer wrappings and into the heart of each other. Saw all of the things others glanced over and missed. That they saw apparent weaknesses as strengths and character.

With danger and adventure hounding their every step across the country it was an exciting whirlwind of events that kept me on my toes and hoping these two could find their way despite everything thrown in their path.

All in all, another enchanting romance from Cornwall! Whenever I spend time in the world Cornwall's created I'm left delighted, satisfied and craving the next adventure she'll take me on.
Gillian MacLeod is shy and quiet, the least likely of all her sisters to seek out excitement and adventure. But on a moonlit night at a masquerade ball, Gillian steals a kiss from a mysterious stranger, knowing she’ll never see him again.

John Erly, disowned by his noble English father, started a new life in Scotland. Most people are suspicious of the foreign mercenary and he does everything is his power to avoid romantic entanglements. But he can’t forget the bewitching beauty who kissed him in the dark, and stole his heart, even though he has no idea who she might be.

A year later, John is given the duty of escorting Gillian to her wedding and immediately recognizes her as the temptress he’s dreamed of for months. There’s not much he can do when she's promised to another man, but fate intervenes and this time, passion—and adventure—can’t be denied. Honor demands he stay away from the MacLeod’s enchanting daughter, but love has a very different ending in mind...
