I Want You to Want Me (Rock Star Romance #2) by Erika Kelly

Mmmm yummy rockstars. I Want You To Want Me totally rocked. The set up was pretty unique and fun. Derek's band is on tour and they're making a name for themselves but it's not always a good one. They're self destructing and if they don't pull their shit together very soon they could lose everything. Which brings Violet into their lives. She's a Minder (something I've never read about!) and is there to watch out for them and channel all of their energy into positive endeavors so they don't become yet another band that was taken down by partying, booze and drugs. A mighty clash totally waiting to happen between her and a herd of young rock stars who are living it up and going just a little too wild and crazy.

Sp. Violet and Derek. They were great characters. Talented, strong and just interesting. I loved his musical creativity and her unflappable nature and how she just rolled with the punches when it came to her job and dealing with uncooperative people. Including that aforementioned creative musical hunk of man candy. Yeah. Derek...was not on board with having a babysitter there at the start. lol Anywho. These two tugged at my heart. They both struggled something fierce with their pasts and warped childhoods--growing up alone in foster care left her detached and feeling like she couldn't experience love and Derek father constantly ragged on him and put him down. They both have trust issues, trouble opening up and being vulnerable but gah they were both amazing and wonderful together when they could let it all go. Not that they had an easy time of doing that. Whew!

The romance/heat was a bit slow going in some ways because of her being the band's minder even though part of her job included pretending to be Derek's main squeeze. Made for some awkward moments, some filled with crazy amounts of tension and some fun ones too. I liked seeing them become close in ways other than hitting the sheets and having a full out romance right from the start. Seeing them slowly get under each other's skin and become a safe place for each other and that finally turning into heat, love, romance.
She had the power to crush him.

He pulled his hand out from her shirt. "You should go to bed, babe."

Her eyes narrowed, and she sat up, looking fierce.

He knew immediately what he'd done. He hadn't meant to fall back into that cavalier role she hated so much. But yeah, he had.

"Babe?"

He laughed, loving the way she got all fired up. "Okay, okay, I'm sorry. I'm a pissy little bitch."
One thing I'm learning with Kelly is that it's not going to be easy where the romance is concerned. Oh man. She tortures her heroes and heroines. Sweet & sexy romances that have to battle for that happily ever after. Real life issues and insecurities that rear their ugly heads and damn near have you thinking there's no way past them. It's not always easy to read but man alive do you feel for the characters and want them to figure it out even if you have to shake them to get to that point. And shake em hard. lol It's totally worth all the angsty bits though once they do figure everything out. Ahh yeah. It's good. The heat is too when it finally happens. *noms*

Okay so just to touch on Violet's job. I loved the idea of Violet being a Minder. Going from job to job basically straightening people out. watching over them and helping them avoid trouble. CEOs with drug problems, out of control celebrities, etc. It was pretty interesting seeing her try to deal with the band who was wild and a bit out of control. I loved the uniqueness of the job and watching her do what she did best. It really made for an interesting element.

All in all, I'm loving this series. Not just the invididual couples and romances but the whole band complete with their troubled crazy moments and wild lifestyles. They're an interesting group and always have me wanting a little more from them. I Want You To Want Me was a passionate, unique and completely captivating ride and I can't wait for more from Kelly.

Have you ever read about a Minder?
Any really different jobs you've read for a hero or heroine?

Derek Valencia finally has the success he’s worked so hard for. His band is touring its debut album and great reviews are rolling in. But when pictures of him tossing naked groupies off a balcony go viral, it’s damage-control time. He’s assigned a “babysitter” whose sole job is to keep him out of trouble.

Violet Davis swore she’d never work in the music industry again, but being a minder for a rock star will earn her enough to pay off the mortgage on her wildflower farm. And for a girl brought up in the foster care system, owning her own home means more to her than anything.

Though at first the two bang heads, the rocker and the farm girl soon grow close and realize that they make sweet music together. But can a girl who craves the stability of life on a farm really make it work with a man whose life is spent on the road with his band?
