The only thing they agree on is the sultry heat between them

Nothing’s more important to Paige Ellerbee than her struggling bakery, Sweet Bee’s. When Lane Anderson, the temporary new doctor hot enough to rival McDreamy, moves in next door, though, she’s sure things are looking up. Until he threatens her business in their first conversation.

Lane just wants to practice medicine responsibly—not argue with the flighty bakery owner next door. But when he finds himself traveling down to the Caribbean to play guitar for Paige’s best friend’s wedding, suddenly the sight of the blonde in a bikini eclipses the fact they can’t agree on anything. And as their vacation romance grows, his reservations about starting something after getting burned by love are washed away like sand on the beach.

But once Paige and Lane land back home, will these polar opposites be able to forgive their feud and find lasting love?

The Dreaded Bridesmaid Dress

Most of us have gotten the flattering yet frightening question, “Will you be my bridesmaid?” Your heart swells. How sweet that someone wants you to be in their wedding. But after that sweet swelling, the burning question starts to sizzle at the back of your mind.

What will she want me to wear?

I’m pleased to see that (some) modern brides have opened their minds and allowed their bridesmaids to select their own dresses and shoes as long as they keep with the color scheme. But back in the day (LOL—I keep saying that lately), everything had to be matchy-matchy, and was oftentimes ugly-ugly.

I sure hope certain people aren’t reading this because I once wore a long, bright-red-lace bridesmaid dress with up-to-the-elbow red-lace gloves, and carried a brass hurricane lantern with a lit candle in it. No joke.

For those of a certain age, it was an outfit tailor-made for the saloon-keeper Miss Kitty from Gunsmoke. Or there was that dusty-mauve watered-taffeta tea-length ensemble with the equally dusty-mauve dyed shoes to match. Let’s just say that I’ve never bought another item of clothing or shoes that color since. Mauve did not look mauve-lous on me! I did catch a break once with a pretty watered-taffeta navy dress (where did the watered-taffeta era go?). That dress was tasteful and flattering, so good bridesmaid dresses can happen.

They’re just a rare species.

Dreading the bridesmaid dress is such a timeless phenomenon, I decided to have some fun with it in Tempted in the Tropics. Paige, the sassy heroine, is the maid of honor in her best friend Liza’s wedding. Liza’s parents own the Baltimore Orioles, and she’s a true-blue fan. Such a fan that she wants Paige to wear an Orioles-orange bridesmaid dress!

What about you? Tell us about a dreaded bridesmaid dress you’ve worn (or seen…because your bride friends probably follow this awesome blog!). ;)

“Seven days and counting.” Paige hugged Liza tightly, catching a whiff of her signature wildflower scent. Every once in a while, Paige would spritz on perfume, but her signature scent was “kitchen.”

“Can you believe it?”

“No.” Paige couldn’t believe half the stuff that was going on in her life right now. “It’s so fast, but I like that. No time to get too stressed about anything.” Except having Dr. Uptight on the trip. She considered making it her personal mission to tempt him to loosen up.

“Exactly. And I’ve picked out a no-stress dress for you, too.”

Paige scrunched her nose. “Please say it’s not orange.” Liza was a die-hard Orioles fan, and most of her wardrobe was black and orange.

Liza shot her a determined look. “The one I want you to try on is actually burgundy. If it fits, we’ll order it for you in orange.”

Paige struggled to keep a straight face because clearly Liza was serious. She didn’t want to hurt her feelings, but orange? “For real?”

Liza nodded. “It’s bright and tropical. Perfect for an island wedding.”

Perfect if you want your maid of honor to look like a carrot stick.

“Cole’s down with me wearing Orioles orange at his wedding?” Paige asked.

“It’s kind of a consolation.” Liza pulled a cute yellow minidress from a nearby rack and studied it. “He feels a little bad about the Nats beating the Os in the World Series, so he said we could use
Orioles colors for our wedding. Mom and Dad are so excited.”

“I’ll bet.” Paige forced a smile and tipped her head toward the yellow mini. “Cute for your honeymoon.”

“That’s what I was thinking.”

“You should see if they have it in orange.”
