Under the Covers (Maverick Montana #2) by Rebecca Zanetti

Opposites don’t attract. They ignite.

The small Montana town near the Kooskia reserve seemed like the perfect place for Juliet Montgomery to hide from her not-so-law-abiding family. But when her peace is shattered by a break-in and threatening phone calls, it’s clear someone back in New York knows where she is. It’s time to plan her getaway, and fast—but first, she needs to tie up a few loose ends. Namely, finding out exactly what the town’s sexy cowboy sheriff is hiding in his holster...

Sheriff Quinn Lodge has enough demons of his own to know when someone’s hiding something. Clearly, he needs to do a thorough investigation to uncover what’s beneath Juliet’s uptight, city-girl exterior—preferably one piece of clothing at a time. But when their chemistry goes from fizzy to full-on explosive, things start getting complicated. How can Juliet stay beneath the covers with Quinn, when doing so means blowing her cover?

One stubborn ass Sheriff that has a thing for spanking? Oh hell yes!! Zanetti writes the best heroes and has such make you pant covers. Thank the book Gods the stories to back them up are just as drool-worthy. Under the Covers. Yeah it was good. Very sexy fake mates kinda deal going on which you know I'm a goner for. With a fun storyline and sparks flying this one totally worked for me.

I loved Quinn. Gah. Loved him. He's all controlled alpha male that breaks loose every once in a while and is so. damn. good. He loves his job and is incredibly passionate about protecting the people he considers his and that includes the entire county and there's just something very sexy about a man like that. I liked Juliet as well. She's sweet and a bit feisty. Stands up to her Sheriff and gives him all sorts of reasons to give her a little spanking as the two pretend to be a couple. I loved the little bit of fire in her and watching the two clash.

These two couldn't always...control themselves and I loved that. The sex scenes are HOT! Raw and passionate and just sexy as hell. They just had to have each other and were fast and hard about it.
His hands dropped away from the pillar. “Can I touch you yet?”

She smiled, her body roaring with need. If she gave in to it, he’d burn her up. But it might just be worth it. “I’m not interested.”

His upper lip quirked. “Darlin’, I could have you coming around my cock in three seconds, and you know it.” The rough tone and crass words almost sent her into an orgasm right there. Never in her life had she been talked to in such a manner—who knew she’d enjoy it? Or maybe she just liked Quinn. “You’re terribly confident, aren’t you?”

“Want me to prove it to you?”

Yes. Definitely yes. She lifted her chin and glanced around the ballroom. “Where? A nice linen closet somewhere?” Her sniff held just the right amount of derision to darken his eyes.

He leaned in, his heated mouth on her neck. “When I take you for the first time, and believe me, it’s going to happen, I want a bed and all night. You’re going to scream my name, and you’re going to beg, pretty Juliet.”
On the flip side there were some really sweet moments as they help each other work past some of their personal struggles. Usually I really don't like when a main plot point is that a character is hiding something. but Zanetti did a fantastic job with this one. I totally got why Juliet kept thing hidden and tucked away. Yeah it was frustrating and I ended up wanting to wallop on a Sheriff for a spell but she handled it well and convinced me it was a decent twist to their tale.

I'm really growing to love this town. It meddles. A lot and damn it all they are so flipping cute. From the little wrinkly old men to his family and even the deputies that work for him. I just love watching them get all involved. I'd love to live in a place like this where people care some dag much.

With humor, plenty of steamy sexy bits and a wonderful romance that sneaks up on these two as they deal with politics and her past catching up with her Under the Covers was really a stellar read. I'm definitely a fan of Zanetti's at this point and cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.
