The quick of it is that Reece--who is all about order, precision and simplicity-- can't seem to get over his attraction to his soon to be sister-in-law Shelby--who is colorful, wild and chaos personified-- and when arson, blackmail and danger threaten both of them they do the only thing they can think of...join forces, get hitched and ride out the storm until they can figure out who is behind all of the attacks coming their way.
I adored Shelby. She's a bit of a wild child. I loved her passion, vibrancy and spirit. And my heart just ached for her. No matter what she does everyone always seems disappointed in her. She's never really had someone in her corner and gah that just killed me seeing her struggle with not feeling good enough or loved by the people most important in her life. And, man, I wanted to pound on some people for giving her hell.
Including Reece. Who totally won me over but had some choice moments of needing to hand over his balls for being a jerk to his girl. He's a little geeky, a little socially awkward with women, a workaholic but loyal to his brothers and everything he does is to keep them safe and secure. Hard not to love him too. Even with the assery moments now and again. And he definitely made up for them in the end.
"You do know I'm a package deal, right? I have a parrot, and he lives where I live."I really did like these two together. At a glance they're exact opposites but really they're so similar in that they're don't quite fit in with anyone else. They have secret layers and parts of themselves they keep hidden. It was nice seeing them come together and bring a little balance to each other's extreme natures. He kept her more centered, she helped him loosen up a little from his OCD ways. They were just a great match. And, whew, when things come together they're hot and explosive! A little surprising too but that's something you'll have to read for yourself <g>
"A parrot?" Reece sighed heavily. "Loud. Colorful. Somehow that doesn't surprise me."
"He's an African gray, for your information, and a good bird. Very affectionate."
"Fine. We'll make it work, but I can't guarantee the cat won't try to eat him."
Of course he'd have a cat. They were a match made in pet-owner heaven. "Aloof, cold. Somehow that doesn't surprise me."
The suspense was interesting. Things were coming at these two like you wouldn't believe. Attacks against her business, arson, some shady s.o.b blackmailing them over some naughty moments they spent together. It was well done and kept me curious until the end. It managed to keep me guessing too which I always love.
My only complaints were small ones but kept it from a solid four. Lack of capitalizing Marines (which hopefully was caught in editing but no idea), disappointment in some of the previous heroes and heroines who had parts in this one and did make up for it in the end but had me growly over how they treated the heroine and some nickname usage that just didn't work for me personally. Little things really in the overall scheme of things.
All in all, Wilde at Heart was a delicious return to the Wilde brothers and once again they gave me all the warm tingles that have me craving more. Burrows writes some very tasty males and I can't wait to see how things pan out for the last two Wilde brothers.

Reece Wilde put everything in his life on the backburner to protect his brothers and their struggling company, Wilde Security. With a major contract on the line, Reece can't afford any mistakes...like getting caught in a red-hot, X-rated moment with wild child Shelby Bremer, who's more trouble than he can handle. Now he's being blackmailed.
Shelby's mile-long impulsive streak gets her in more trouble than she'd like to admit. Between her sister's wedding, her coffee shop set on fire, and getting down and dirty with the groom's brother, things are definitely coming off the rails. With both their careers and their safety on the line, Reece is determined to keep them both safe...even if it means a Vegas-style shotgun wedding.
But gambling on a wild card—and a wild soul—is risky...and sometimes, it can get a guy killed.
