4 stars-- Master of the Abyss (Mountain Masters & Dark Haven, #2), by Cherise Sinclair

Some Cherise Sinclair today. An older one but still fun. And a bit naughty. The hero owns a, erm, naughty travel lodge, the heroine owns an outdoor adventures type business and the two are trying to work out a business deal but she has to see what kind of things they offer and, well, things get steamy, and funny...

"Strip."

She narrowed her eyes. "You know, we need to work on your social skills. You can't snap out orders to a guest."

"Oh. Was I too terse?" He cocked his head and gave her a mean smile. "Kalinda, you will remove every item of clothing immediately or suffer the consequences."

She took a step back as the steely glint in his eyes did funny things to her heart beat.

"Was that better?"

"Uh, not exactly what--"

"Now, Kalinda."

Her mouth went dry. But there's only half an hour before supper kept running through her head, as if that made a difference to someone like Jake.

A masterful dom carrying around commitment issues and a sassy new-to-the-scene sub that would rather play with the boys than rock a pair of heels. Oh yes. Jake and Kallie were an intriguing pair.

I read book one from this series a long while back and was excited to jump in again. Basically Kallie and her family run a wilderness group and Jake and his family run a lodge and they're trying to get a deal going between the two to offer package deals to tourists. But that means getting up close and personal with one another. A vanilla family...and a totally kinked out set of brothers who are all about bdsm and everything erotic. Ahhh what is a girl to do?!

These two. Noms! Lots of sexy noms! lol I enjoyed them as a pair. They both have some past issues to work with and it was fun watching them try to resist because of their own issue and the whole mixing business and pleasure.

My only complaint was over the makeover trope. Kallie is a tomboy and everyone kept trying to change her and make her more feminine. That...bugged me. I don't mind if the catalyst for change is the heroine (or hero if it's his makeover) but not a fan of others pushing a character to change that way.

All in all, though. Master of the Abyss was one seriously hot read. Sexy with a little bit of suspense. The characters were likable, the sex scenes scorching hot and incredibly sensual and the suspense, while a little predictable, did manage to surprise me just a little bit. A good time was had by all.

Two years ago, when Jake Hunt uncollared his slave, she committed suicide. Guilt-ridden, he will commit to a woman for one night only, devoting his energy to a mountain lodge that caters to a BDSM crowd.

Kallie Masterson is tough. Unwanted as a child, she worked hard to become a wilderness guide. She’s proud of who she is, and hurt that Jake frowns on her for acting like a man.

After rescuing the macho guide from a bar fight, Jake is stunned that the ugly men’s clothing hides a warm, responsive woman. A submissive woman. When guide business brings her to the lodge on BDSM night, and she is obviously aroused by the play, Jake takes the little sub right into his world of pain and pleasure. He warns her: one-night-only. But she responds so beautifully--so joyously--under his command, that one night soon becomes two, then three…

Then a missing hiker reminds Jake of his past lover, and he realizes he’s become too involved. He pulls back.

Meanwhile, the watcher on the mountain has rendered his verdict: Kallie Masterson is evil. The sentence: Death.
