Interview w/ Carolyn Crane-- margaritas, kitties & grabby hands!

When her long lost twin sister is won in a card game by a brutal drug cartel, Association head Zelda Pierce knows what she has to do: Take her place. Save her. She’ll use the opportunity to infiltrate the shadowy group--and try not to think about the reason she left the spying game eight years ago. She’s slept with dangerous criminals before; she can do it again.

Hugo Martinez is one of South America’s most lethal and wanted men, a legendary mercenary living on a windswept mountain. Even at the height of the war he wasn’t in the habit of taking women captive, but the cartel’s American whore has seen his face. And he and the orphan boy need a cook. He shouldn’t get attached to this woman, but her presence and passion are becoming addictive.

Zelda finds herself falling for her captor…but is he the killer she’s been hunting all these years?

Mornin' Carolyn! Welcome to herding cats! I'm having a go at making sopaipillas and the Herd has been particularly devilish today so I decided to go theme and break out with the margaritas a bit early today. Figured we could drink and nosh while we chat Behind the Mask. How's everything going over in yall's world?
Hey, thank you so much for having me!!  I’m so happy to be at your lovely blog. *clinks glasses* Who doesn’t need a nice margarita while doing the hard work of herding cats?
Amen to that! *takes a fortifying sip of frozen strawberry goodness while pointedly ignoring the herd* So. Behind the Mask sounds crazy intense. If you had 10 seconds to get someone good and curious what would you tell them?

This is my most caveman-type hero—he’s a dangerous killer living on a windswept mountain. And he probably wouldn’t have taken the heroine captive if he knew she was an ex-CIA agent…who used to hunt him.
Oooo I'm so loving that! Bring on the caveman! Can you tell us 3 fun/sexy/interesting/wacky behind the scenes facts about Behind the Mask?
  • This book contains the angriest sex scene I have ever or will ever write. Like, seriously!!
  • There is a botany mystery in this book!
  • I didn’t think I’d write a book using this heroine or I probably wouldn’t have named her Zelda back in book #2 (fyi you don’t have to read in order). What was I thinking with that name??
omg totally snorting over Zelda. Heh. Now, if Hugo was going to whisper something naughty in the quirkily named Zelda's ear he'd....
Whisper it in Spanish….soooooper dirtily.
Oh gah. Yes, please! Despite her name Zelda sounds pretty bad-ass. What about her do you think will have people going oh damn! chickie is fierce!?
She is an ex-CIA agent who switches places with her prostitute twin sister who gets into a jam (won in a card game by a drug cartel, which always ruins a girl’s day). And later she takes over a plane of gun toting cartel guys – while wearing lingerie.
*nods* Yeah. I think that'd do it. It sounds like she's got her hands full with Hugo too What's your absolute favorite thing about him?
I love how caveman-ish he is. Most of my heroes are fiery and communicate a lot, but Hugo is a man of few words and sooooooper bossy.
I can totally get behind that. If Hugo was going to be a food or meal...what would he be?
A big thick steak. Rawr!! Lol.
::snort:: And on that note...I saw you have a wee herd! Do they get in on the writing action? We'd love to hear about them :)
I have two cats, Oblio and Tiberius. Oblio is a naughty but lovable orange and white boy who kind of acts like a dog. Tiberius is named for the “T” in James T. Kirk (yeah, we’re nerds) for a fighting move she uses against Oblio that Kirk frequently uses. They are both just great.

Oh my word. I want to squishy hug them both! My herd would be royally pissed though if I dared touch another herd babe. lol Alright. Favorite Man Candy?
I’m on a HUGE Charlie Cox tear. And omg are you guys watching Daredevil?

Um. Nope. But I might have to change that! Favorite "couldn't live without it" snack?
I love Sees chocolate suckers. They are so chocolately and they last so long.
Weirdest thing in your purse right now?
A super healthy green smoothie! lol
LOL I think that might be one of the oddest what's in your purse replies. ::snort:: Best "burning soup" moment?
I once dropped a cell phone in a giant vat of soup. I fished it out and it actually still worked.
Oh dang! I'm completely freaked out by?
How fast time whips by.
No joke! I can't believe how fast it moves. So, before you head out, what's up next for you?
I’m working on the fourth book in my “Taken Hostage by Kinky Bank Robbers” series. Which is very scholarly as you can tell by the title.

Ums. <looks sideways at her glass> This margarita might have been a wee bit strong. But seriously. How have I not read those yet???!! Must fix this. lol Anywho. Thanks so much for dropping in Carolyn! <slurps a little more frozen goodness before running to Amazon and grabbing book one that's free! (or the bundle)>
Hey, thank you so much for having me!
Alright, yall! Leave Carolyn some fabulous comment love!
After spending my youth thoroughly obsessed with Nancy Drew and Harriet the Spy and convinced that my neighborhood was awash in dark secrets, I grew up to become a RITA® Award-winning author of romantic suspense, urban fantasy, and other tales of adventure and love.

I’ve been published by Random House and Samhain, and I presently go the indie route. I work a straight job as a freelance marketing writer and I’m passionate about protecting nature and animals. Some of my favorite things in life are reading in bed, running around the Minneapolis lakes, writing in coffee shops with my writer husband, and eating dark chocolate and Mexican food. My husband and I live with our two cats  in a small 1920′s condo full of plants and sunshine.
