Woohoo! A new to me author and such a fun read! So Risk of Exposure. She's a spy. He's ex special forces hired to look after said spy by her daddy and she kinda caught him doing so and blackmailed him into helping her with her mission. I loved the two together :D She's kinda bad ass and I LOVED seeing her give him a run for his money...
"Don't you forget it, love." He stood and dressed, having dug out his Under Armour thermals from the kit bag he'd brought.
She poked her head around the bathroom door. "What? Don't forget what?"
"That I'm an ass. You've blackmailed me into helping you, and someone as well trained as you knows that isn't a recipe for success." He finished tying his laces.
She shrugged. "I trust you."
"You shouldn't. I have a healthy regard for self-preservation and even I don't know what I'll do if you get in the way of that. So you're much better off not trusting me for anything. Just a friendly PSA." He knew he sounded like a dick, but he just couldn't help himself.
"I'm not worried. If you piss me off, or if you're in the way of my self-preservation--she punctuated with air quotes-- "or my mission, I won't hesitate to shoot you." She disappeared again.
"There's one problem with that, love. I've got your gun."
She didn't reply, but he heard the unmistakable sound of a shotgun being charged. "Fair enough," he said, trying not to smile at her resourcefulness. "What else have you got in there?"
"Hairspray," she said.
"Awesome." She was such a smart-arse. His sister would love her. He made a mental note that no matter what, they would never, ever meet. Ever.He opened the door and peered in.
Oh and then their first meet! His car was "broken down" and she offered him a lift into town. Yall know how I feel about sporks. I was totally wrapped around the heroine's pocket at this point. lol
"Are you sure? I promise I'm not an ax murderer." He smiled disarmingly, and for a second she considered that that was precisely what an ax murderer would say.
She shrugged to herself. Anything to relieve the boredom of her life.
"Sure. Maybe you should be asking if I'm the ax murderer?"
A frown flickered across his face for a second and she laughed. "I'm not, I promise."
He got in and put his seat belt on. "Isn't that exactly what an ax murderer would say, though?"
She laughed again. "You're the one who brought up ax murderers. Maybe I kill with a spork. Maybe you're making me feel inferior with all your talk about axes." She pulled onto the road and headed toward the flickering lights of the town about thirteen miles away.
"Then lets drop the subject. Although, clearly, axes are superior in that line of business."
She sniffed. "You haven't seen what I can do with a spork."
Risk of Exposure (Alpha Ops #6)
Woohoo! I loved it! Risk of Exposure was so fun! Fluffy, sexy, romantic suspense goodness. Everything about this one was a good time. From characters to setting to the little bit of danger and some hot lovin'...Curtis held me captive. Seriously. Other than breaks to eat and herd the, well, herd...I couldn't put this one down.
Okay so the quick of it is that Malone has been sent to Ukraine to keep an eye on his boss's daughter. She's been working at an orphanage near the Russian border and her dad is rather worried about her. So Malone begins the most boring of assignments watching the most boring of women...or so he thinks. Ah yeah. Abby's rocking some killer secrets that'll stun the former SAS operative stupid and leave his world spinning. Yes!!!
I loved Abby. Yall know I have heroine issues fairly often but Abby was awesome. This chickie has some serious badass moments and was no nonsense about things. She's not a damsel in distress and can give as good as she gets. It was so much fun seeing her spin Malone for a loop.
And Malone. Lordy that man. He could be a total jackass but totally sexy too. He's a little jaded with the world seeing he was an operative for ages and he's a little slow on the uptake sometimes but he was fun and hot and just a great hero.
Sexy and suspenseful. Curtis did an awesome job combining sensual romance with a suspenseful backdrop of spies, invading armies and potential war breaking out. It was exciting and a little nerve wracking. There were a couple nail biting moments and a few that had me fanning myself because, dayum! these two were so fun to watch together no matter what they were getting up to. They were scorching hot in bed (or where ever they happened to be) and had that combative dynamic going on between them. They couldn't seem to help poke at each other or one up the other. It worked though. It totally had the vibe of members from different military branches and how they'll goad and give each other hell.
All in all, Risk of Exposure was a damn good time and just what I needed. A fun, sexy read with dynamic characters and an excitingly dangerous storyline. I'll be going back for the rest of the series no question.
PS--This was my first from Curtis and it was totally easy to jump in at book six so no worries if you've not read the rest of the series.
He is a trained professional—but nothing can prepare him for the hottest mission of his life. Assigned to protect his boss’s daughter, British former SAS operative Malone Garrett breaks the first rule of covert surveillance—don’t make contact. And especially don’t take your mark out to dinner, then agree to a rooftop quickie. But now that Mal has Abby in his arms, he has no intention of ever letting her go.Abby Baston told herself it was a hit and quit, a one-nighter with a hot, handsome stranger whose hands were trained to take action. Working undercover for the CIA, she can’t risk anything more. But when an international crisis ignites, Abby must make a call: trust Mal with her secret—and her heart—and partner up, or lose everything in a split second . . .
