The Duke of Olympia Meets His Match was a cute little transatlantic jaunt as the Duke, well, meets his match in the intriguing widow Mrs. Penelope Schuyler.
The quick of it is that the elderly duke--yall he's 74!--is tasked with hunting down an anarchist hiding in the midst of a ship full of American heiresses voyaging to England. Oo excitement!
"In truth," said Olympia, with a single pat to the watch pocket of his waistcoat, "a simple sir will do. Or Duke, if you must."It took me a little bit to get into the flow of this one but once I did it was a fun time. A bit of mystery, a bit of romance, a curmudgeony old Duke and a few little surprises along the way I loved the setting of the ship and seeing their voyage, had a good time with the array of characters and all of their different motives, and being kept guessing on who the unknown anarchist was. The romance was light and kinda sweet as the two of them who had both kind of given up on romance taunted each other and had a little moment. I won't even lie though. I had a bit of a reader girl panic over potential sex scenes since, you know, grandparents age and the visual I did not need of that. lol But it turned out okay and while a little happened most was off page. He also so didn't act/move like a 70+ year old which was odd. He was running and dashing about like he was a strapping young thing. lol
"What do your friends call you?" asked Ruby.
The look he cast her was not the slightest bit amused. "I have no friends, Miss Morrison. But my family, when they deign to address me by something other than a vulgar epithet, call me Olympia."
"How very intimate," Penelope said, under her breath.
"We are English, after all."
All in all, a short novella but a nice little escape for an evening.
Aboard the luxuriously appointed SS Majestic, the duke is on a mission to retrieve a most important portfolio of papers and thwart a known anarchist. As the ship steams across the Atlantic, the duke’s search for the notorious master of disguise forces him into close quarters with an American heiress and her widowed governess, Mrs. Penelope Schuyler.
While Olympia has known his fair share of intriguing women, Mrs. Schuyler seems to have a way of challenging his expectations at every turn. But as their clandestine meetings lead them down an unexpected path, the duke must determine if Penelope is a woman to be trusted…
Brave Enough (Tall, Dark, and Dangerous #3) by M. Leighton
Fab characters, amazing setting, sizzling chemistry...Brave Enough was an absolute treat!
The gist of it is that Weatherly has run away from home. Well, she's run away to the family vineyard but same diff, right? lol Her dad's being pretty unreasonable and trying to force her into an arranged marriage or he'll cut her off. And she just flat out needs to get away for a while and think. Little did she expect the distraction that awaited--one gloriously sexy and tempting man named Tag who just so happened to run her family's vineyard.
I really had a good time with these two. Weatherly and Tag were easy to like and you could totally see being their friends in real life. Good hearts, caring, hard working, a bit cheeky and all kinds of sexy. Not entirely what they appear from the outside. They were fun together, too, and just meshed even with their very different lives.
And the sexy! Yum! The chemistry between these two was powerful and instantaneous. Lots of sexy times that were hot and heavy. There was one though that eew, yeah, no. Sex in the mud, painting each other's bodies in the mud, wiping hands on jeans to "clean" them and rolling on a condom before going at it is just not sexy. And most likely gonna land you at a doctors office at some point. Other than that one unfortunate scenes...I was on board with the naughty bits. lol
All in all, Brave Enough, was a fantastic read with lovely characters finding their own, fighting for what they believe in and falling in love when they least expected it.
He was the most charismatic man I’d ever met. Strong, tough, brave. Bold as hell. Something told me Tag Barton could have anything—anyone—he wanted...and he wanted me. It didn’t matter that he was wrong for me in practically every way possible. It didn’t matter that my father would hate it.
I couldn’t resist him. Even if I’d known who he really was and what he was really capable of.
When he suggested we pretend to be engaged, I thought he was the answer to all my problems. He wasn’t. And, in his wake, he left nothing but scorched earth and me, just another casualty of my father’s war.
Can I believe him now when he tells me he loves me? Or is he nothing more than a beautiful, breathtaking lie?
