4 stars-- Dark Redemption (Dark Paradise #3) by Angie Sandro

Oo I liked it! I won Dark Redemption ages ago and just let it sit on my Netgalley self but I finally dove in and, damn, yall. It was worth the time!

The Gist: Mala's kept the fact she can communicate with ghosts a secret her whole life and has a life altering decision to make. There's something evil out there brutally murdering teenage boys as some sort of sacrifice and her otherworldly talents and the support of her boyfriend might be the only way they'll find justice.

Landry and Mala were great characters. This is an ongoing series so they were already an established couple and I loved them together. The chemistry, support and connection between them was amazing and you could tell they cared deeply for one another. They weren't perfect, though, and had to work on it. All kinds of things were thrown in their laps. A group of abandoned boys they'd been caring for, pressures from family, the occasional demon possession, betrayals. Pretty much what your every day 20something has to deal with, right? lol

There was a lot of suspense. Gah. The case they found themselves tangled up in was...gruesome. Dark magic and a serial killer. Using innocence to gain power for some unknown cause. Things moved at a very fast pace and kept me guessing at what was really happening and who was behind it all. Some things I semi-figured out but not everything. It was nicely done.

My only issues were that in a couple spots I thought things needed a little more explanation/dealing with. And then a couple other spots where I had a moment of confusion or two but that stemmed from jumping in at book 3. So that's on me. And it really wasn't too bad.

Overall, Dark Redemption was a refreshing paranormal jaunt full of dark and gritty elements that were balanced out with strong characters you could root for, a lovely romance and bits of humor and heat. I'll be heading back to book one for sure.

Deep in the Louisiana bayou, Mala LaCroix cannot escape the mysterious things she's seen. Haunted by her otherworldly past, she only wants to hide her special abilities and care for the man she's come to love. But the dark swamp she calls home holds more than just Mala's secrets, for a killer is leaving behind ghosts trapped between worlds, hungry for vengeance . . .

Landry knows Mala could never turn her back on those in need. It's part of what attracts him to her. But now that he's wrestling with his own demons-and losing-he fears that just being near the woman he loves endangers her life. And that traps him in a terrible dilemma: leave Mala alone to catch a murderer by herself or stay close-and risk entangling her in the brutal battle for his very soul.
