[AtoZ QuoteTastic] Just a Hint - Clint (Visitation, NC #4) by Lori Foster

Oh yall. One of my favorite books! I decided to do a re-read of Just a Hint-- Clint. It's been nearly a decade since I read it first. I just love these two. So Clint is pretty darn gruff and Julie's pretty darn innocent and wanting to liven up her image a bit. Clint's neighbor who happens to be a prostitute has decided to give Julie a makeover...
Her rebellious look had him worried. "It could be fun to spice up my image some. As Carmen said, it's long past due. And it could go hand in hand with my plans for enjoying life a bit more--"

Groaning, Clint closed his eyes and rubbed his forehead.

Instantly concerned, Julie leaned toward him. "Clint? Would you like some aspirin?"

"I'd like you to promise me that you.." The words stuck in his throat.

At his hesitation, Julie tipped her head. "What is it?"

Damn it, if he said it, there'd be no going back. Did he even want to go back? Not really.

Julie pushed out of her seat and, still favoring her ankle, came to him. "Clint?"

He'd done enough fighting for one day. Tossing the frozen bag of peas aside, Clint scooted back his chair and stood to tower over Julie. She was so petite, but with so much grit and twice as much heart. He cupped her face. "Promise me you won't change." He bent, put his mouth to hers in a gentle, undemanding kiss. "Don't let Carmen make you into someone you're not, because you who are is pretty damn special."

Julie's gaze softened. Her lips parted. And she whispered, "Whatever you say, Clint."

Just a Hint-- Clint. Yall. This is one of my favoritest of the favorites. lol
The Gist: Clint's been hired to find a kidnapped woman and keep her safe until the culprits are found. Not too hard a gig for a bruiser of a guy. Avoiding falling for her? Well now. That might be a challenge.
I absolutely adore Clint. He's one of the most unique heroes and one that just captured my heart from the start. He's not what anyone would call handsome, he's gruff and rough around the edges, gets queasy when he has to engage in violence (not an easy glitch when he's in rescue). But yall this guy. This guy is all heart. He's honorable and dedicated and is just so utterly sweet under that craggy exterior. He's every inch the swoon-worthy hero.
Julie Rose is pretty awesome, too. By outside appearances she's a shy mousy thing. But the girl has a spine of steel. She fights back, has spirit and sass. Has a heart of gold and is endearingly innocent and trusting. She's pretty wonderful.
And I loved their romance. They have great banter and chemistry. They're an unlikely pair with his gruff violent lifestyle and her softer safe life but they work. I loved that while neither was a knock out, exactly, to each other they were. They both came alive with that, too. With someone being there, trusting them, finding them sexy and wanting them. It was really rather sweet.
The mystery was good, too. Random attacks, kidnapping, multiple suspects, them on the run and keeping Julie Rose safe while trying to figure out what all was going on. It was nicely done.
So, the second time around I loved Just a Hint, Clint nearly as much as the first time. I adore Clint and Julie Rose. They're amazing people and it made me flat out happy seeing them together and finding love.

Some days, it doesn't pay to get out of bed. That's what crosses Clint Evan's mind the minute he takes on the four thugs holding heiress Julie Rose hostage. It isn't the danger--Clint's made the reputation by being reliably ruthless, a quality that keeps his wounds deeply undercover. What's got Clint in a lather is Julie herself. The pretty, petite schoolteacher he's been hired to return to her wealthy fiance is no fainting trust-fund baby. She's a bit of a hellcat, one who won't be deterred when she sets her sights on something. And her sights are set on Clint.

The one rule Clint never breaks is this--don't get involved with the client. He can look, but he definitely cannot touch--even if it's driving him crazy. Keeping Julie safe until he can figure out who's behind her kidnapping means never letting her out of his sight. And the closer he sticks to the feisty, seductive woman who makes him feel alive...the harder it gets for him to ever consider letting her go...
