Q: Have you had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with and then "broke up" with later on in either the series or a stand-alone book? Tell us about him or her.
A: The only one I can think of is Faythe Sanders from Rachel Vincent's Shifter series. First time I've ever wanted to throw one of my precious books across the room. Couldn't believe what I was reading I was so disappointed. Grrr and a bit of arg! See, getting all worked up all over again and it's been months since I read it. If you plan on reading the series and don't want a bit of a spoiler you might not want to read any more.
So, what ended it with me and Faythe was that halfway through the series she cheated on her boyfriend. I just couldn't get over that or the way she handled everything after the fact. There was a pretty awful emotional trauma and she dealt with it by getting drunk and sleeping with one of her friends who happened to have been in love with her for ages. All while knowing her boyfriend had been kidnapped and was still in danger. Yeah. Lost all respect for her after that and by the end of the series really didn't want her to get her happily ever after. I so wanted the boyfriend to leave her cheating no good self and find someone else.

I apparently hold a grudge.
Hmm.. I never really had issues with THAT part of the story, though I can definitely see where you are coming from. I think it should have been dealt with very differently. Like.. She's allowed to do it, but then.. what she did afterwards? Not cool. :/

Oooo. It really got to me. I couldn't see her the same after at all. Maybe if it had been handled differently after like you said but boy did she make a mess of things!
DeleteI haven't read that book but I totally agree with you, cheating with his/her significant other is not cool! I hate cheating... even if I don't like the legal bf/gf, cheating is still cheating!

Couldn't agree more! So disappointing in a heroine or hero. Thanks for coming by :)
DeleteI've never read "Shift" either, but its really annoying when a supposedly smart character does something dumb and just gets away with it. Grr.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Sometimes their mistakes are just so out of character. Oy.
DeleteI haven't read that one yet so I can't say much but I did want to thank you for stopping by Dead Trees and Silver Screens. Your comments mean so much to me.
ReplyDeleteAw you're welcome. Hope you're having a great weekend!
DeleteLOL, yeah! Faythe did have that weird moment... but I don't think I hated her. Which is sort of weird I guess. But then again, she did fight for six books to not be Mark's girlfriend...
ReplyDeleteStop by my #FF?
I don't hate her all that much but just really, really disappointed in her. Felt so bad for Marc.
DeleteThanks for following me, here is your comment & follow back! :-)
ReplyDeleteLmao. Grrrr and a bit of arg. Priceless! Did the book survive?
ReplyDeleteHaven't read the any books in the series, but heard a lot abt it (good and bad).
Happy Friday to you. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Ha. Yeah it survived. It's sitting up on my shelf in the guest room with the rest of them. I didn't even throw it. Not even once :) It is a good series. I really like Vincent's writing but she'll do some damage to your heart if you don't watch out.
DeleteI haven't read the series, but I understand why that would be irritating.

Was oh so frustrating. Especially if you really like the significant other. Thanks for coming over Abbey :)
DeleteI never got to that part of the series. LOL.

Who boy did it almost do me in. Was halfway through I guess. Still a great series though :)
DeleteDon't you hate it when books make you want to throw them across the room? But then again, it is kind of a sign of good writing that the author can get you so invested in a character.

Very good writing and I love her books but man does she get me every once in a while! She's great at making characters a bit flawed.
