I love ketchup. I mean LOVE it. L.O.V.E. love. It's my favorite food right after chocolate and really food's just not worth eating without the stuff. Well, a couple things might be okay without it but really not all that many things. Dessert. Dessert's not good with ketchup. Pasta's a no go. Um....ah...hmmm...yeah, that's all I got, pasta and dessert. Though there are ketchup macaroons but I think really those would end up on the "things to never put in my mouth again" list and I'm so not going there.
The bigger the bottle the better. Those teeny tiny ones you get at hotels are really pretty damn cute but really you need 2 or 3 for a single meal! If I could get a bottle like <------ that one. Whoboy! I'd be all over that! Bliss!
It's delicious on eggs. On macaroni and cheese or mashed potatoes. Veggie burgers and dogs. Plantains and fries of all kinds. Hashbrowns and frittatas. Quiches too. Nice in baked beans and on BBQ sandwiches.
Now, I'm a Hunt's girl through and through but even Heinz will do in a pinch. I did love when they started putting funny sayings on the bottles. That was a hoot! And the fact that you can get customized "talking" bottles really kicks ass. What a freaking brilliant idea! Heinz definitely have the market on advertising. Just so much awesome! But still Hunt's will always be my Ketchup!
So, a wee bit of history...Ketchup actually dates way back to China in the 1690s but was then based on pickled fish. Yikes! It's come in all kinds of forms since then. Mushroom, banana, lemon and all sorts of fruits, muscles, cucumber and even walnuts. It took a while for tomato ketchup to catch on because people thought tomatoes were poisonous! (But thank goodness for me it did!)
And my most favoritest of all...back in 1981 someone at the USDA actually proposed it be classified as a vegetable. Seriously the man of my dreams ;) Personally I think they were brilliant but alas the proposal was dropped.
And. Oh. My. Cute! If I ever have a kid they are SO going to end up in one of these! Wonder if I could find a kitty version?! I do believe Miss Gladys NEEDS one of these!
This is a cute post! It is definitely apparent, you are IN LOVE with Ketchup :)
ReplyDeleteI am from Honolulu and people put ranch dressing on lots of things!
Mandy @ The Chockboard
It's just the best :) Ranch dressing is good too. Didn't know that about Honolulu. I love it on salads and it's not too bad on french fries if you dip a little ketchup with it too. Not sure what else you'd put Ranch dressing on but I'm game!
DeleteYu really do love ketchup. My brother-in-law gets a huge can of ketchup every year from someone for Christmas. He thinks along the same lines you do.
ReplyDeleteSo, do you pronounce it cats-up or ketch-up?
Bwahaha. That is an excellent Christmas gift! So jealous!
DeleteDefinitely Ketch-up and spelled that way too. None of that Catsup nonsense ;)
I love this post! I actually live in the tomato capital of Canada, so this stuff kind of make the world turn in certain circles in my area. I do love it on eggs, burgers of all sorts and dogs, and when I was a kid I even ate them on my mashed potato's.
ReplyDeleteGreat post :)
Oooh. Tomato capital of Canada sounds nice. Definitely a place I'd fit in. Mmmmm. So good on mashed potatoes. Thanks for coming by!
DeleteMy sister use to eat ketchup on EVERYTHING growing up. It was okay but I didn't NEED it like she did! great post and it made me say 'EWWW' a few times...ketchup on Macaroni and cheese? EWWWW..
ReplyDeleteI like your sister! ;) And it is SO, SO, SO good on Mac&Cheese! Yum! I do get some funny looks though at restaurants when I ask for it. Their loss :)
DeleteGreat post! Everytime my husband make hamburgers, he always leaves the ketchup off of mine, and I quote Grease 2 "Noooo ketchup! How can you eat a hamburger without any ketchup??" Too funny!
ReplyDeleteBwahaha. I LOVE that quote! And it's just oh so true! Don't know what your hubby is thinking?!? ;)
DeleteMy niece LOVES ketchup like you do. I try to keep a spare bottle in my pantry to avoid a repeat of the great ketchup-less birthday party...I'm hoping I didn't scar her for life. No ketchup for the birthday girl? Shameful.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work with the challenge!

Oh no! The great ketchup-less birthday party. Yep. The stuff of nightmares ;)
DeleteI don't eat ketchup often. One bottle will last me over a year. It usually expires before I can use it all. If I do it's with fries but I put a tiny bit out & dip the end of my fry in it & eat it. I'm just not a fan of it. Or mustard. I don't eat it at all. I do like mayo though. Duke's. Nothing but Duke's for me. But I have a cousin that shares your love for ketchup. She smothers everything with it.
ReplyDeleteThat's how my family is too. I'll go home and the bottle in the fridge is nearly full and from my last visit 2 years earlier. We're not sure exactly how we ended up related. I'm so a smotherer. Okay. Not a word but I'm going with it :) I like mustard too but not nearly as much and mayo is a definite no-no. I won't even put it in egg salad. ::shudder::
DeleteOh & by the way, I do like tomatoes. I LOVE tomato sandwiches. Just not ketchup.
ReplyDeleteHm. I have an uncle who is the opposite. Tomatoes gross him out. He can eat ketchup and marinara sauce but it can't have any chunks what so ever. I'm good with all things tomato :)
DeleteLOL I love it too but not that much!
ReplyDeleteSonia Lal, A to Z challenge
The best stuff out there :) It was so fun looking for images and seeing I'm not all alone in my obsession! Ha!
Deletewow! you DO love ketchup!! haha.... It's funny cause I had to buy some today.......!
ReplyDeleteIndeed :) Glad ya got a nice fresh bottle. I'm nearly out of my back up!! Going to have to do a little emergency shopping tomorrow ;)
DeleteI wouldn't mind trying the mushroom Ketchup--it sounds weird. I like ketchup on fries and hamburgers, but not much else. I use it pretty sparingly.

::shudder:: I'm not a mushroom girl at all so that one kinda makes me cringe. Never know though!
DeleteHope you're having a fantastic time with the challenge!
I feel much the same way about BBQ sauce. Sonny's Sweet BBQ sauce in particular. With sour cream coming in behind it. Between the two you cover everything that can be dipped or drenched.
ReplyDeleteMmmm. Sonny's BBQ sauce is good too. I like the original one though. I asked my mom to bring me a bottle last time she came and she ended up bringing like 6 of them. I'm set for a LONG time :)
