To bring down a sleazy abduction ring, Lieutenant Margaret "Margo" Peterson has set herself up as bait. But recruiting Dashiel Riske as her unofficial partner is a whole other kind of danger. Dash is 6'4" of laid-back masculine charm, a man who loves life—and women—to the limit. Until Margo is threatened, and he reveals a dark side that may just match her own.
Beneath Margo's tough facade is a slow-burning sexiness that drives Dash crazy. The only way to finish this case is to work together side by side…skin to skin. And as their mission takes a lethal turn, he'll have to prove he's all the man she needs—in all the ways that matter.

The quick of it is that Margo--who is a police Lieutenant--is working towards busting a ring of people abducting women and sexually abusing them in the name of entertainment. But things take a turn and she finds she's become the target of not only this ring of scum but also the man she can't seem to shake and that is hell bent and determined on helping her with her case and getting close to her in other ways. *squee* Yes that would be Dash.
Did I mention *big girly sigh*? Because seriously I loved everything about this one. Margo was an incredible heroine. She's capable, a little stubborn and a lot fierce. She knows she's good at what she does and isn't afraid to show it. Even if that lands her the title of being a ball buster when she's on the job. But she also has a softer side where she shows her vulnerability--much to her dismay--as she deals with a lack of love and understanding from her family and her need to not always be in control sexually. She's an interesting combination and seeing her fight both sides of herself and find a happy middle ground was something to see. She also loves a blind elderly kitty and that right there made her good people to me. *nods*
And Dash. Dash was everything I wanted in a hero. That is one sexy beast of a man that goes with the flow, is calm and caring, busts his butt for those he cares about and has a nicely dominant edge in the bedroom. An edge he gallantly fights when seeing Margo on the job and wanting to protect her from all of the dangers she encountered there. I loved that while he wanted to help and protect Margo he also let her do her job and supported her in it. And that he was smitten with her for all her different sides. The soft woman he saw in private and the badass cop that kicked butt and took names. And he didn't try to change her or force her to be someone she wasn't. That to me was an incredible turn on and had me falling even more for him.
The two together were wonderful. I loved seeing them adjust to each other and working together. They really brought out the best in each other and played off each other nicely. It was hard watching sometimes as they both struggled with different aspects of their relationship but it was just lovely to see them find their slow both working on the case and when it was just the two of them having a private moment. And oh how nice some of those moments were. The sexy bits weren't over the top but nicely heated and with a dominant/submissive bent (though this is not a BDSM read in any way). The two were just sexy and fun and a great time. It was also quite funny seeing everyone else adjust to the two of them since the people in their lives were so connected--Dash's brother and friend worked for Margo and were used to seeing her as, well, just one of the guys and not a woman. Made for some gigglesnort worthy moments.
Dash put his arm around her.The mystery/suspense was a nice addition as well. A lot of it I saw coming so wasn't too surprising or shocking but it was still nicely done and kept me reading. Some people really just need to be culled from the herd. Lordy. It's a disturbing set up but ended in a satisfying way.
Logan stared.
Reese raised his eyebrows.
Dash was about to call them on their idiotic behavior, but Margo beat him to it.
"Put your eyeballs back your your heads, boys. I know it strains your boundaries of belief, but I enjoy a little human contact every now and then, same as anyone else."
":Yeah, no, I wasn't..." Logan transferred his bemused gaze to Dash.
Reese coughed...and clapped Margo on the shoulder, just like she was one of the guys. "Glad for you."
She staggered into Dash, but laughed. "It doesn't require applause, detective, so stow it."
Really...you can't go wrong with Foster. She knocks it out of the park time and time again and always beings together incredible storylines and even more amazing characters. It's hard sometimes going into a book with such high expectations and where you've been not-so-patiently waiting for years but Foster put together an incredible read and left me with a blissed out reader girl smile on my face. Dash of Peril really had it all. A hero and heroine I wanted to root for and was totally smitten over, a storyline that got me all riled up just as it did them and some wonderful spotlights from previous characters that, yeah, had me grinning like a fool. Just an excellent read!
