4 stars--Love in the Light (Hearts in Darkness #2) by Laura Kaye

Damn I love these two. If you've not read Hearts in Darkness yet...people! You must do so now! It's one of my all time favorite reads. I've been hoping for a follow up book for years and Kaye...made it happen! *squeals of delight* It was amazing getting back to Caden and Makenna's story and seeing what was going on with them. Passionate, heartbreaking, romantic...Love in the Light was a swoon-worthy treat for everyone who adores these two.

The quick of it is that it's been a couple months since these two met and things are serious. Like, meet the family serious. And that's got Caden all kinds of nervous. There's no way he'll fit in with her family. He's big, scarred, tattooed and pierced and Makenna...she's sweet and proper.

"...I know you love being here. I don't want to go home early." No way would he do that to her. He knew how important her family was to her.

"I would go, for you."

Earnest blue eyes stared up at him. He knew she would, and it was part of why he loved her. He shook his head. "And I'm staying for you."

Life has been hard on Caden but Makenna is his light. I loved seeing them together and how she just...got him. It was sweet and heart touching watching them together. And the heat! Yummy curl your toes sex that was delicious and passionate. Yes, please! The two are so very perfect for one another despite their very different outward appearances. And it just broke my heart that he found himself struggling with depression and questioning so many parts of himself. Feeling like he wasn't good enough. It hurt so bad seeing him struggling as his fears got the best of him and he began to spiral. Seeing Makenna deal with the fall out and trying to survive the heartache. It was emotional and so very moving as they fight for their happily ever after.

While I didn't think Love in the Light was quite as smooth writing-wise as Hearts in Darkness (damn that one would be hard to beat!) it was everything I love about Kaye and exactly what she does best...creating amazing romances that grip your heart and leave you sighing in dreamy satisfaction. I would do naughty things for more from this world  Kaye has brought to life. Their friends and sibling's stories would be amazing!
