3.5 stars-- Face the Flames (Sugarland Blue #6) by Jo Davis

Oh *pets the sexy fireman*

A fiery police detective, a damaged and oh-so-hunky fireman, lots of sexual tension and a little suspense? Face the Flames was worth the wait!

Clay, oh Clay. *sigh* Alright so the quick of it is that Clay was one of the guys from the previous series--Firefighters of Station Five-- and was seriously injured on the job. A year later and he's still on medical leave and going stir crazy. Until he happens on a gas station robbery and a redheaded detective who lights him up right nice. Happens she's just as taken by damaged firemen. And...fireman petting begins. lol

I really liked Clay and Melissa. Their personalities just laid in so nice together and they had that ease and comfort I enjoy. Things move pretty darn fast but it managed to feel right for them. Sexy and sweet and full of a lot of very tender moments. I loved Clay's determination and strength in fighting to get his life back after devastating injury. And I loved how caring Melissa was. She's a fighter in her own right and absolutely no pushover. I liked that she was the cop, too. You don't see too many female cops in romances so that was fun.

There's a lot of time on the job for both. Boring bits, dangerous bits, the camaraderie they have with their teams, the struggles they face and the stress of the job, too. It was nice that while their jobs were different they both kind of knew the lifestyle. Plus a small spot of suspense as a cop goes missing and her shady family is dealt with.

My complaints? Lordy some of the sexy talk. He was full of cream at one point and she was sucking on the spongy crown of his cock at another. :shudders: I totally had a few eeeewww, really? moments over certain phrasing and, yeah, it was often enough to lower the rating for me. But the scenes, other that that, were sizzling!

All in all, Face the Flames was a nice addition to the series and wonderful to finally get Clay's story. These two were a great couple and I had a lot of fun spending time with them.

A near-fatal accident left firefighter/paramedic Clay Montana with devastating injuries. Now, after a year-long recovery, Clay is focused on one thing: getting his body back to form, so he can return to the job he loves. And then a chance meeting with a fiery redhead changes his life...

Detective Melissa Ryan may be the new cop on the block, but she s no stranger to Sugarland. It s where she lived with her violent, criminal uncle a man she needs to see behind bars. But when she meets Clay at a crime scene, the down-but-far-from-out firefighter makes her rethink her priorities.

Getting close to Clay is intoxicating, but Melissa must keep her wits about her if she s to protect them from a man with deadly intentions
