4 stars! Reaver (Lords of Deliverance #5) by Larissa Ione

Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he's agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before...to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.

Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she's been doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan's lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld's darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her new found thirst for an angel's blood...

Whew. Alright, I'm gonna need a second here because damn I'm like a little puddle of reader girl at the moment. That was one helluva book! I've been dying for Reaver and whewboy it was something else. Non stop action, danger around every corner, one damn sexy ass angel for a hero and a heroine that, well, gave him hell in the best possible way. Add in a couple jaw dropping moments and, yeah, I totally felt like I needed a cigarette as I turned that last page of Reaver. It. Was. Excellent.

Okay so the quick of it. Reaver and Harvester. These two have one seriously screwed up past together that's all good and tangled and when things kick off Reaver is preparing to risk his feather to rescue Harvester--who had been undercover on the evil side of things, been found out and left by the archangels to an eternity of torture at the hands of Satan and his minions. Even though she's not his favorite person Reaver needs Harvester to remember his past and jumps into the fray.

Alight, so I totally don't want to spoil anything so lets just say I loved it? A good portion of the book was spent in Hell as Reaver and Harvester try to evade Satan's hoards and get to safety. Ione had me flipping squicked out here. Shark sized flesh eating grubs, eyeball consumption, exploding...bits. Hell was gruesome and gut churning and effing amazing. Their escape kept my heart pounding and me flipping those pages so blasted fast to see what horrors would happen next.
[Okay--This isn't the main hero/heroine but two of the side characters helping them...]

She shook her head. "Impossible."

"I'm telling ya," he said with a shrug.

She wasn't going to argue. Not when she knew she was right. "Just for shits and giggles, let's say it's the death cobra."

"But I don't want it to be the death cobra," Tavin blurted. "That sounds really fucking bad."
Or what kind of tangle and snark Reaver and Harvester would throw at each other. Loved these two. They're...not the flowery romance sort. These two are unquestionably attracted to each other but they hate each other as well. It was really fun watching them battle it out with each other and, well, with themselves as well. They had one of the more complicated relationships that spanned thousands of years, heartbreak, memory loss, betrayals and even tender moments. It was a real trip seeing them come to grips and remember the past. And all that yummy fiery tension between them played out real nice between the sheets ;)

On top of all the love-hate romance sneaking up on them and the daring and torturous escape from Hell things were crazy on Earth (and in Heaven) as well with pending doom, the Horsemen and Underworld General all coming into play. It was just... so much effing fun! I loved seeing everyone and watching things unfold bit by bit. There were really a couple things that I didn't quite see coming until they happened and then had that "of course!!". I also had a moment...or eight... of wishing a certain archangel dead. Then quickly sidestepped lest a lightning bolt strike me down for such a thing. lol But damn was totally throwing some evil eye at one of those guys. Whew. It was great. lol And with how things ended? Sweet Mary. I want the next book, like, yesterday.
