Today's pick is Steal Me by Lauren Layne. It was such a fun read! It's a whole family of cops in New York and gah I just love this family. This is one of their Sunday breakfasts at a dinner where the heroine works. I so loved the heroine's response. She definitely has a little fire in her which was definitely needed to keep up with this big rowdy family...

Vincent cleared his throat. "Hey, Mags... I think there was maybe some mistake, but um, Anthony seemed to get all the bacon in the restaurant."

"Seriously, there are like, twenty pieces," Elena chimed in.

Anth leaned back in his chair and watched as Maggie's pretty features formed the picture of confusion. "I'm not sure what you mean,"

Nonna pointed a long spindly finger at Anthony's plate. "Sure you do. You made sure he got half of a hog all because you two had relations."

Maggie gave one of those slow, secret smiles that only women seemed familiar with and leaned down so her lips were close to his grandmother's ear. "Mrs. Moretti, with all do respect...if I were to have relations with a man, he'd have all the reward he needs. You get me?"

Maggie stood up slowly, grinning a little when Nonna let out a delighted whoop and smacked her palm against Maggie's backside as Ava and Elena gave Maggie high fives. Even his mother looked strangely approving.
Steal Me (New York's Finest #2)

Woohoo! I love me some Lauren Layne and a sexy grumbly cop with a crazy family and a thing for their new waitress? Even better! Especially when the waitress who is tormenting his meals (she totally spills on him every single time) becomes a key witness in a series of burglaries he and his department just cannot seem to crack.

Anthony and Maggie. Ahhh these two. One of the things Layne does best is combative relationships. They're so dang fun to watch as they go from driving each other insane to, well, still driving each other insane but it a totally different way.

He's all scowly (there was totally a line of 'this is just my face!' over it <---totally cracked me up!). She's a bit chipper. Totally made herself a part of his family even when he was still resisting. She's not had the easiest time with the people in her life but she keeps on tucking and trying to make her life better. She's also writing a book! Love that! They both had some things to get over as well. Guilt over people that used to be in their lives or were currently in their lives. I liked that they both had issues to get past.

They had fantastic chemistry but things were fairly light on actual heat. There was a little but not TOO much. But it was yummy when it happened. Whew, girl! Anthony really does like being in control. Noms!

There were so many great things including getting to see them both in action on the job. Her working at the diner and on her book and Anthony dealing with struggles on his burglury case. Her getting involved in that. It was neat seeing them in their worlds.

Anthony's family was awesome as well. They're loud, nosy, gregarious. They remind me of the Italian families I know and seriously make me smile over their ways. They could drive a girl mad too. lol It was really great spending time with them.

All in all, I really loved so much about Steal Me. Layne has a way of creating such dynamic characters and relationships and making you want to be a part of their lives. Nothing better!

Being a cop might be in Anthony Moretti's blood, but protecting and serving the city of New York has always been more than just the family business. If that means his love life stays locked up, well then that's just another sacrifice made in the line of duty. That is, until he sets eyes on the gorgeous new waitress at The Darby Diner and suddenly Anthony's morning coffee is leaving him a whole lot more hot and bothered than usual.

Though waitressing at The Darby isn't exactly Maggie Walker's dream job, it pays the bills and gives her time to work on her novel. Now if only she could stop fantasizing about gorgeous Anthony Moretti every time he sits down at her table, she'd really be in great shape. But when he needs her help identifying a criminal threatening The Darby—and Maggie recognizes her ex-husband—she fears her fresh start might be a pipe dream. Faster than a New York minute, Maggie and Anthony find themselves in one perilous pursuit that only gets hotter with each and every rule-breaking kiss.
